Help disconnecting solar panels with MPPT Controller and no quick disconnects.

Thanks all - put a blanket over the PVs and pulled the plugs. Worked like a charm and was able to disconnect the batteries with no issues. Putting in a quick disconnect is on the list for future upgrades!

Help disconnecting solar panels with MPPT Controller and no quick disconnects.

Sorry if this is answered somewhere else on TF ... did some research and didn't find exactly what I needed. I'm needing to disconnect my house batteries. I have 2 PV panels installed with a 30A MPPT Controller and Remote Panel. From what I've read, it looks like others have installed quick...

    Butyl Tape Recommendations

Hey all - looking for some butyl tape and understand they are not all the same. Seems like the butyl that Compass Marine and Main Sail (mareinhowto.com) offered was considered the best, but Compass is out and Main Sail's online store is offline. Getting ready to rebed a deck plate and add a...

    Help in La Paz

Just put a boat under contract down in La Paz. We have a bit of time, but I need to find a good surveyor, good mechanic and good yard. Never spent any time down there, but hoping some other TF folks can give me a few good recommendations. Also, wondering about the protocol for getting an oil...

    Buyer's Broker Topic ... Again

Oh - and if you could arrange for it to be in Florida post hurricane season that would be awesome!:thumb:

    Buyer's Broker Topic ... Again

KnotYet – thanks for your perspective … your experience is what I’m concerned about and would like to avoid. I don’t want to minimize the value of brokers … I recognize that having representation is very helpful at all stages of the process, whether a buyer or seller. TF has been a great...

    Buyer's Broker Topic ... Again

Thanks Ted - saw this one. Layout doesn't work for us. She's now under contract as well... Appreciate the head's up though!

    Buyer's Broker Topic ... Again

Thanks all - good advice all around... we'll continue to take our time and find the right agent. Inventory is pretty slim right now anyway, and I'm guessing it won't get any better through the summer.

    Buyer's Broker Topic ... Again

Hey All – I know others have posted questions on this topic but wanted to revisit it in today’s seller’s market … that is, the pros / cons of a buyer’s broker. Aside from helping with the process, it seems that a key value is in finding off-market or almost-to-market leads. We have targeted...

    DeFever 49 CPMY

Hi all – we are still on the hunt for our “new” boat. We have come across a 49’ CPMY that looks interesting … it is a pretty boat with moderately low hours on twin Perkins. We are in the PNW ... our goals for cruising are San Juans and Gulf Islands, inner passage to AK, travel south to Mex...

    Fox On The Run

Thanks Visser - we've looked at some Tollys but we haven't seen one with a layout that we really like, particularly on the aft cabin. Appreciate the response though!

    Fox On The Run

Hey folks – We’ve been looking for about 6 months … had a 42’ OA trawler under contract recently, but had to let it go … wet flybridge, decks and stringers … a bit of a bummer. Continuing to look and checking the usual places – Yachtworld, Boats.com, BoatTrader, Craigslist, etc., but not seeing...

Flybridge - Wet / Soft Exterior Walls

So, just in case anyone might be interested in knowing how this one turned out... Water intrusion in flybridge appears to have seeped in from the flybridge deck through the weep hole channels that were plugged. Per a few sources, including the yard, the best fix was to tacklet it from the...

Flybridge - Wet / Soft Exterior Walls

Just had our survey yesterday on a 43’ OA Tri-cabin (1980). Waiting to see the written report, but spent most of the day with the surveyor. Lots of miscellaneous items noted, which seem fairly manageable, and the hull is in good shape overall (a few paint blisters) … Great … but a couple of...

    Blister Question

Agree 100% ... we have put it under contract and hired a different surveyor than last time ... SAMS accredited and highly recommended by multiple disinterested sources. Also found the mechanic that has done work on this particular boat to handle mechanical/sea trial. I was concerned about the...

    OA Swim Platform/Step

Thanks so much Steve. I was originally thinking I needed a yard to do the platform and davit, but now I'm thinking I may try to do it myself. Still need more research on that, but I agree with you ... think I'm going to need some extra structural help to support the weight. Thanks also for the...

    OA Swim Platform/Step

That's a sharp boat Steve! I like the idea of installing myself although I have to figure out the swim platform. Teak platform (not FG) ... I'm thinking it is probably not deep enough to manage the davit, ladder and people. Also worried about support. BTW, what kind of carpet material...

    OA Swim Platform/Step

Any OA owners out there replaced the swim platform and installed a platform mounted davit system (Seawise/Weaver/Other)? OA 43' Tri needs a davit. Like the Seawise transom mount, but OEM platform (I think it's original) is pretty narrow and seems like it might have a hard time carrying load...

    Blister Question

Ha - I like the way you roll! Another great, although I'm partial to Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett myself. Love the naming idea.
