Interior bulkheads - Laminate or Veneer?

Get a good magnifier and look closely at the surface. Laminate will be pixilated, made up of dots or small hexagons, while veneer should show the porosity of the wood. I would not use a modern laminate on a boat, as it usually has a pressboard or masonite backing. If white is your color, there...

No, not at all. I am just trying to get it up to a workboat level of finish and cleanliness. :-)

    I need some help

Also check the USCG Maritime documentation systen. Six digits is right to be the documentation number. The HIN could be on the keel, transom, or as ours is, stencilled on the inside of the hull, in the engine room, under the last layer of fiberglass. Ours is a 1986 build.

Restaurants on the way to ???

Yes. We are using Arnis. As I was not sure how bad the leaks were, he could have beaten me like a yard dog but he did not do that. He will be done a day ahead of time, and at a very reasonable price. We will look for other good resturants, bakeries, and food stores as we travel.

Restaurants on the way to ???

We are at St Augustine, stopping at the City Marina to get our old dinghy patched. Found a guy who is not asking the world to do it. We found the O C Smith restaurant across the street from the marina office, so we had dinner there. It was great. Seasoned grilled Mahi over seafood risotto for...

From last year, the marina was pretty well full. The dockmaster and the office manager, Annie are very helpful if you have to squeeze in at the last minute. They took great care of us when the slip we were to move to after tf he TF gathering fell through, found us a slip through May. It may be...

    Someday Isle... introduction

I recently saw a larger trawler with a Marquipt stair across the teansom from the swim step to the raused back deck. I thought it a good idea. Our dock neighbor has a Selene 46 which boards from the floating dock with only a 8 inch step up through a hull side door. From the boats we have seen...

Time to start asking questions, 10 of them

You are a Marine nearing retirement, so self discipline is not a problem, so plan weekend car trips to the areas you might want to boat in, and check out the marinas and walk the docks to look at boats for sale there. Talk to the people on their boats and get their opinions as to how their boats...

    Choosing a Windlass

I replaced a fried Lewmar 700 with a Maxwell 10-8, for a rode of an 80 lb Manson Supreme, Mantus swivel, 300 ft of 5/16" G-4 US made chain, backed with 150 ft of New England 5/8" 8 brait. Total rode weight about 400 lbs, windlass rated for about 1450, so I should be good under most conditions...

49 yr old female Realtor took the leap and EVERYTHING is a learning curve

Welcome aboard Welcome to chaos central, and congrats on the new to you boat. Looks great. Ask questions, always. I try to learn what I can from books, as well as from the people who have helped me. Some books I have found useful are Chapmans' Piloting, Seamanship, and small boat handling...

    You gotta be kidding me!

A friends' daughter in law used to be a sales rep for Effen Vodka. Their premise was "Give me an Effen martini". Not my favored style of advertising. This is the same type of stuff that however good it might be, I would never pay for it, or have it on the boat. John

Thanks guys. Priscilla and I will be there in February. La Vita Dolce may have a new bimini by then, as I broke some of the (old) isinglass taking it down for Dorian. We bought a new Ingalls cooler to keep ice and some good beer cold over the weekend. Looking forward to seeing you all then...

    Replacement Toilet Recommendations?

We went with a the Raritan Marine Elegance when we replaced. Works great, and we have the 4 way switch for waste volume control. Went into the same footprint, but gave us the elongated bowl for more comfort.

    Used RIB Dinghy

You might look at the Inmar aluminum hull boats. Very light for their size, and not too expensive. US made, west coast. A Chinese boat similar to those are the North Atlantic Inflatables aluminum hull boats, about $4300 for 12 ft in Hypalon. JohnS

1973 40 LRC, Stepped in with both feet.

Welcome. We have a Cheoy Lee 40 LRC also. 1986. Ours is twin Lehman 135 naturals. We moved aboard in February and are loving it. Using the water tanks alone, for showers, drinking (filtered), and for the heads, we get about 2 months use. Drinking water is filtered under the sink by a 5 micron...

TF Gathering 2020 Now, or once we narrow down a date range, we need to contact Ft Pierce City Marina, as they are in the midst of construction on the peninsula that held the tiki bar and park area. There is a 2 story resturant and bar going in there, maybe with new marina offices. A problem now...
