    Marine Specific versus Regular Appliances

Regular Appliances, etc. I, long ago, replaced my Princess 3 burner & oven with smooth top 3 burner, did away with the oven and replaced it with drawers. Use convection microwave for oven stuff. Additionally, I replaced cold plate fridge boxes with counter depth fridge/freezer. Finally, the...

    Moving aboard in April!

Congratulations on moving to living aboard....would LOVE to do the same but it ain't gonna' happen. SO, I just go to the boat frequently. I also get to travel a lot in it and my wife meets me at destinations...that way we have a car once I get to the proper coast (mostly west coast of Florida...

It's nice when you can keep your boat at the dock behind your house....

I have gotten fuel there...no problems. Good price. I more often get it at Doctor's Lake....but Mandarin is about .50 cents/gallon LESS! Great price.

    Repair cost opinions

Tanks Many cut the tanks out (piece by piece) reinstall 4 150 gallon tanks...that way that can go in though window. Others cut bottom out and drop tanks....I'd be for cutting them up and removing them...lots of folks have done that.

    Flybridge helm only ??

I have a lower help and NEVER use it regardless of the weather (yes, I HAVE frozen up there before..lol). I know have it enclosed. Just can see much better there. In fact, I wouldn't entertain the idea of buying a boat without a flybridge...but I know some people feel otherwise.

    Use of searchlights at night

Search lights Interesting comments.... I DO use mine when I'm coming into an unmarked (on the chart) inlet from the ocean, with small, frequently moved, navigation buoys (like St. Augustine). While they are lit...I like to EYEBALL them. Yes, of course it screws up one's night vision a bit but...

PM story on a sunken GB in Hopetown

I hardly think anybody wanted their boat to sink. You make a call and sometimes you're right other times you're wrong. Monday morning Quarterbacking, I'd say. It is hard to know where to go sometimes and it is REALLY hard to know where a hurricane is going.

    Water Maker (Desalinator)

Mine is plumbed right into the top of the tank. I do know someone who has a splitter that enables him to divert from tank directly to a container. My installer didn't want to do that.

    Water Maker (Desalinator)

I have a Spectral Catalina (DC powered) that makes about 11-12 gallons per hour. I had it installed several years ago and it has worked fine. Have only replaced the membrane (two short ones) one time. It is a great unit. When in the Bahamas or Keys, one rarely has to change the filters...

    That was not planned...

I have a Nick Jackson davit on my boat (1000 lb.) lifting a 12' Novurania with 25 hp. 4 stroke. Have had it for about 3 years....works great. Rides on the starboard side of 46' GB Classic. Great crane.

Grandbank....you are right regarding insurance....I've had to have an in-water survey this past year for policy year. It seems they need this every 5 years or so.

    Grand Banks v Defever

Question: I have a post on this thread and have a picture of my boat on my profile but it does not appear with my post....how to 'fix' this?

    Grand Banks v Defever

I have a GB Classic (46') and have a good friend who has a Defever....both good boats. I've had mine for about 7 years. Have been to the Bahamas two or three times, up to Charleston (once), to Key West a bunch of times and over to the West Coast (Naples, Sarasota, St. Pete) every winter. Home...

How large trawler can I single-hand?

I have a 46' GB Classic and have gone from Jax to Key West....From Key West to Naples, Sarasota, etc. many times by myself. One time pulling my 16.5' Egret. Docked sometimes (interesting when pulling a boat...lol) but most often on the hook. No problems in most cases docking alone. I do it...

    Towing a 13' whaler or 10 RIB

I have pulled my 16.5' Egret (behind 46' GB CL) from Jax to the Bahamas and the Keys more than a few times. Have used a bridle and never had any problems at all. Also have pulled my son-in- law's 20 Hurricane to the Bahamas and the Keys as well as to Tortugas. No problems and I've even pulled...

    Refrigerator

Thanks for your reply (note, my boat is at the Florida YC . . . I noticed you were in Fleming Island). I'm thinking I'm either going to a DC system (have seen several that appear to be nice) or remove the boxes entirely and get a narrow regular 120 volt Bosch or GE refrigerator/freezer (they...
