    *Blue Water* Bahama cruising?

Isn't the argument supposed to be about the inherent capability of a given boat design to handle extreme conditions? My question wold be if a full keel is slower and inherently less safe, why would there be a market for them? Because the operator gets a longer reaction time? That doesn't sould...

    that's insane.

    Dry exhaust

I had a dry stack+keel cooler. You'll have a beautiful efficient engine, but the noise is significant and takes away from the aesthetics of cruising. I also ended up replacing the keel cooler and it wasn't cheap. I wouldn't own one again.

    Another docking question...Avalon

Not really. Catalina today @ 30 knots. Look at the sets in the background. https://youtu.be/1NtTq8BMN_0

? about PERSONAL Locator Beacon PLB (not EPIRBs)

I love this. Best safety device is between your ears. If you're breaking out the EPIRBS, the flares, the AIS beacons, the decoder rings, you're screwed. You're behind 0-2 to Justin Verlander...and you're wearing a blindfold.

? about PERSONAL Locator Beacon PLB (not EPIRBs)

I worked in public safety for decades. What you say is true. Dealing with a truly unconscious (or newly deceased) human is extremely difficult. It's not like carrying a drunk or sleeping person. The patient's muscles relax and are flacid. It's like trying to pick up a big glob of jelly. They run...

? about PERSONAL Locator Beacon PLB (not EPIRBs)

I hate that thing about an SMS to a nominated number. No one ever replies to my texts. Not even the wife. I'd probably be better off texting TikToc.

    Santa Anas today on Catalina

Cold and dry offshore winds. Orange County on fire. Avalon getting hammered. 2020.

    Amazon sent wrong shorepower inlet

I've actually been trying to cut Amazon out of the loop completely. Often though Amazon just kills competition on shipping time. Not price as much, speed.

    *Blue Water* Bahama cruising?

Perhaps there are no blue water boats, only blue water sailors. After reading Shackleton's book, one might arrive at that conclusion.

    *Blue Water* Bahama cruising?

I think of Blue Water cruising as way they hell out there. Like Oceanic, or at least a few hundred miles out. Minimum. Lately I've seen some posts describing Bahama cruising as "Blue Water". Bahamas are 50 miles off Florida. Why is it considered Blue Water cruising?

It's funny your screen name is "Drill guy" because your comment made me think of a Sawsall.

    Amazon sent wrong shorepower inlet

I have. Certain items aren't returnable and some of their 3rd party sellers have misleading ads that intentionally use ambiguous language and Amazon allows them to persist. In the case of this Marinco inlet, like a lot of there items, the seller has 48 hours to reply. Imagine returning...

    Amazon sent wrong shorepower inlet

Heh, good thing I posted. I thought it was just heavier duty. Different wire config?

    Wanted: Autopilot wanted

I too have an older Ray Marine auto pilot. I believe it's not complete, it has the motor and some sort of control box and a chain. I've never hooked it up and cannot vouch for it. I wouldnt risk shipping it therefore, however if anyone in the Socal area is interested PM me and you can check it out.

    Amazon sent wrong shorepower inlet

I ordered the Marinco 30amp and received the 50amp. It's worth double the 30amp but it looks a little different. Now they're not responding to my "wrong item" request. Should I just live with the 50 and consider this a win?

Boat Name - Reason for yours

Previous owner built the boat, and named it after his deceased wife. He's also deceased. I dare not change the name.

Name the one thing you dislike about your boat

My parents had '68 GTO and it was handed down to me (They thought it was *just* a Pontiac). It had a black vinyl roof. In 12th grade I stripped it off.

Name the one thing you dislike about your boat

I realize the plastic/teak decking is expensive and bullet proof, but even if I could afford it, I'd rather have shag carpeting on my deck. Go real or not at all.

Name the one thing you dislike about your boat

I was going to post that too. Worst thing is the vinyl roof-- faux convertible on 60's cars. What were they thinking!

Does a trawler have weather and motion issues like a sailboat?

Curious about this too. I have a 29' Trawler with a 24' mast. Never raised the sail yet. It seems quite tall for a steadying sail and not tall enough for propulsion.
