A shame to put it back in the water

Awesome set of wheels, Marin. Did you do it yourself, and what process was used. Envious minds want to know.

    Saying Hello

Welcome aboard! LOVE the look of the stack. I'm thinking it is not functional, but sure is salty as all get out. Nice boat.

    MAS Epoxy vs. West System

My son-in-law chemist recommended the West system when I told him it was a 5-1 ratio, rather than 2-1 or 1-1 of others. He lost me on the explanation, but I trust his judgment. One thing I learned from my aviation training is to use a "peel-ply" layer on top of the resin. In most cases...

    Optimum use of CQR?

I like it! Ensures to make you check the windless operation before leaving the dock, great safety feature.

I like the new format - brighter colors and easier to read. Well Done!

    Marina Insurance

Our marina asked to be added an additional interest. I called our company, Progressive, and they had no problem adding them on at no additional charge. Said they do it all the time. Doesn't seem to be an issue to me.

    Creampuff 36 Gulfstar**SOLD**

Hey Doug - You get any nibbles on your Gulfstar? I hope the nice weather will get folks out and about for a boat. By the way, did you ever cruise on one engine only? I've read about people doing that to save fuel, and putting in a little rudder to correct. If you did it, did you keep the...

    What's in a name?

Not to worry, markpierce, we will be loving and gentle and appropriate when she reveals her identity to us. Having said that, I've always like "SNAFU MARU", seems appropriate at times.

    What's in a name?

Our Gulfstar 36 came with the name "Pygmalion Too", which has absolutely no meaning for us. As we restore her, we will wait for inspiration from her and change the name. So far, the most obvious has been Little F***er, but I'm sure she will show her sweet side to us.

    Leaking windows

When pulling the window out of my cabin door, I used plastic shims, available at any big box store, or maybe even your local hardware place. Get one started, tapping gently, and then continue around, adding shims as you go. Slow, even pressure will do the job in time without tearing anything up.

    Hello New Software

Got in, changed password without too much trouble. Like the new look of the site, in a few weeks it will seem like its always been this way. Thanks for you work!

Electo scan, microphor processor or tank

The composting heads I've seen separate liquids (urine) from solids which compost. What happens to the liquid?

    Teak swim platform re-do

I turned it over today, and discovered that the bottom is in totally perfect condition! Much better than the top which has a lot of damage. So...... I'm going to reverse it and put the good side up. The bolt holes will not line up, so I'll plug each of them with a bung, fill in the void under...

    Teak swim platform re-do

I want to go for the WOW factor. I just want to make sure I'm doing it properly.

    Teak swim platform re-do

Just checking to see if I have the process correct after looking through the archives: Removed the nasty looking teak platform to the shop. Almost done removing old flaky finish with scrapers, heat gun, and stripper (for the deaply imbeded stuff). -* mighty tedious for an 8 foot platform...

    Ft Lauderdale Trawlerfest

healhustler - At one time you were right behind me and the mrs. at the Loop seminar. You came up to visit with some people on the right side of the room. We were right in front of them, I remember your hat. Sorry we didn't hook up. My point of reference for this show was the Strictly Sail...

    Looking pretty, Red Oak

For us East coast folks, the American Victory victory ship is located in Tampa. Very nicely restored, great self-guided tour. And they try and cruise it twice a year or so. Well worth a visit. Easy to find right behind the aquarium.

    Ft Lauderdale Trawlerfest

Back from Ft Lauderdale, and the Trawlerfest pretty much lived up/down to*our expectations.* The ups were the seminars we took in, and the people we met.* The downs were the lack of vendors, terrible service at the Grill of the hotel, and the rediculous pricing of the boats.* A 40 foot American...

    Creampuff 36 Gulfstar**SOLD**

A good looking Gulfstar.* We recently bought a 73 similar to yours, except we have seperate berths in the master stateroom.* It was really shabby looking, having sat outside un-attended for 2 years.* Mechanically sound, some minor repairs needed, as well as a total upgrade to the interior.* We...

Any members headed for Ft. Lauderdale Trawler Fest

    "Good Old Boat" for trawlers

We sold the Hunter 26 sailboat and moved up to a Gulfstar 36 trawler.* Needs some work, mostly cosmetic, but within our capability.* I loved the magazine "Good Old Boat", subtitle "the*sailing magazine*for the*REST of us."* It is all about older production fiberglass sailboats, and how to...
