    Homebuilt

Thank you Thank you for sharing your experience and suggestions, I have changed the height, the problem come in the specific way I use the boat. outbound I am loaded up with fuel and tons of books and come home light. My displacement can change over 100 % so it’s hard to get the height just...

    Homebuilt

1000's of miles over the past few years. I have a change to the amas on my “to do list”. They have too much initial buoyancy making the ride stiff so I thought I want to narrow then up, when I get some time. If I do it again I think I could live with a single outrigger. Big waves have...

    Homebuilt

This thread is for the homebuilders out there. I would enjoy hearing about your projects. I started with a list of things I needed a boat to do and ended up with a 64’ power tri

    Spare props

I keep a spare on the boat and have changed it in the water to test my skills and tools. I also pull the prop when I haul and maintain the joint.

Anchor size for our new to us boat

I have a somewhat oversized anchor on a light bow. On long runs I pick the anchor up with the stern cat using the float/retrieving line. The anchor rode remains attached through the bow roller and it’s an easy drop if needed. it’s nice having a clear bow in a big sea.

What inspired you to get into boating?

For me it was during Boy Scout camp, I got on a sailfish and never wanted to get off. Then using all my lawn mowing and paper route money I got a used Hobie, which got me into racing. Then I learned that some owners needed people to race on their boat. This put place like the Caribbean...

How do you do your boating

My Boating After many years of working in the marine industry I started thinking about building myself a boat. In Kaohsiung, I meet a man who was building a boat there. One of the interesting things in his boat was a dentist chair set up in the saloon. He explained he had been a dentist for...

    Diesel Fuel Tank Design

I always try to install a low point drain on the tank top with a stand pipe and roll the plate where I can to reduce the welding. Also try not to return fuel to bulk tanks, just to your day tank (the hot fuel causes condensation). I use dip sticks on the bulk tanks and sometimes a sight gage on...

    Real Anchor loads

I don’t have all chain and run at relatively high speeds (compared to sailboats). Waves often cover the bow rattling the anchor and roller. I use the trip line to retrieve the anchor at the stern, where it can be stowed ready to launch. The anchor rode remains attached and leads through the...

    Real Anchor loads

I always use a trip line and in addition I place a float on the line so that the nylon rode floats up so when the boat moving around the coral is not snagged. The float I am using lifts a few feet of chain and the nylon in calm conditions. In a blow it just sinks. I have to admit I rarely...

    What's in a name?

The Carabao has been a friend and beast of burden to the people in the western pacific since their introduction in the 1600’s. Sedately plodding along the dusty roads, these wonderful animals were happy to pull their heavily loaded carts. They were the island’s trucks, tractors, and...

    Power trimaran

You are right, its a good looking boat. Chuck Neville helped me with a boat that looked similar to the Passagemaker Lite line. http://www.nevilleboats.com/stock_plans_jollyman_57.htm but my boating needs changed so its way back on the burner

    Power trimaran

Thanks I have seen that Forum - I am pretty fat with design help and have developed lots of data running the tri. The new boat should have a 400 mile per day range but the SL will be under 2. Been lucky to spend lots of time on light boats (RC44,TP52,RP75)
