    Diesel Tank Draw Off

I tend to go no sumps and no holes on the sides or bottom of the tanks and a slight grade on the tank top. Where possible I fold the tank sides out of the bottom plate to reduce the welds. I try to keep water out of the tank, by using a water block fill filter and when possible I only fill...

    Built in place tanks

I am currently using integral tanks in my home-built. It is lighter, adds structure, and doubles the bottom in areas. The tank top is also the cabin sole in places.

    Guam

I live in Pago Bay. Guam is a hard place to keep a boat. The typhoons are strong and common. I would enjoy showing you around but am on my boat till after Christmas. There is a group of traditional boat builders near the Baseball stadium, they meet on Saturdays and are friendly folks, the...

    Rudder designs

I was working on a project that had a single screw and two rudders - I found it interesting that the rudders turned at different rates. The designer (Vripack’s Dick Boon) swore it was the best thing for this boat.

    Anchor size, big is better?

Thank you'll for the valued information. I think I will get that 176 lb Claw and a barrel of chain for the primary and also keep the 135 lb cqr (on the bow roller) with 10 m of chain and the 1 1/8” nylon rode. The fortress lives in a locker with a short chain and a poly rode. The trip/...

    Anchor size, big is better?

I have a new "old boat". It’s going to weigh 35 tons loaded. I inherited a 135 pound CQR and a nice piece of 1 1/8” 12-strand, along with a big fortress. I want to add a primary anchor and am looking at 176 lbs Lewmar Horizon Claw for $750. 154 lb Rocna 70 for $2212.48 The price different is...

    New boat Suggestions

I don’t have drawings with me, but recall starting with a 10 knots boat at 100 horsepower; to get this we needed a slippery/light hull that would reach its theoretic hull speed at as low a horsepower per ton number as possible, something a little better them 3hp/ton. 8.4 knots or about 200...

    Volvo Penta V-6 diesels

Koliver : This engine came in from a hydraulic suppler with 12 hours on it about 10 years ago. I would have thought it new if it had been manufactured around that time. Glad to hear your TAMD41s are still new.

    Volvo Penta V-6 diesels

I always enjoy the insights on this forurm, My Volvo was originally considered for its inline six configurations and its relatively low rpm full power rating. This was important since the hydraulic pump being driven had a low maximum allowed rpm input rating. Now if I can get 14 knots out...

    Ballest for a Marben

I agree with doing some testing, both roll period and incline. A short talk with a good naval architect may help. Maybe you can trade that zinc for lead. playing with boats is fun

    Epirb

I have an EPIRB, and a full ditch bag. I got a basic bag content list from a category one sailboat races list. I also keep wallets, cash and, anything the crew cares to put in. I have a hand held VHF, GPS, cell phone, and a windup radio with charger output. Do you’ll carry rafts?

    Engine Oil Drain Valve

My current engine had one motor oil dip stick installed and one blanked off taped port on the other side. I had to modify my oil pan and eliminated the drain plug. Using the blanked off port I installed a fixed oil pick up. To change the oil I use a West Marine Porta Quick Oil Changer. I drop...
