    Trawler Flip?

HA!.. That's Charlie Abruzzo at Red Line Liquidators - he really is quite a piece of work. He actually has some good boats but he personally has a lot of rough edges that you kind of have to be a NYer or NJer to appreciate. Overall he is a good guy who gets some good boats but you really have...

Bimini to Fort Lauderdale East to West

Well, tried the crossing yesterday (Wednesday) and seems like all the forecasts were wrong as we had strong winds from the north and much heavier seas than predicted as soon as we hit the deeper water west of Bimini. Turned around. Looks like Friday afternoon might be the next good choice.

    2 heads, 1 stinker

Unfortunately left Peggy's excellent book back in NY but will be better prepared next time. UPDATE -Switched out the macerator pump in the Bahamas. Only one available to fly in from Nassau was a direct Jabsco replacement - hopefully this will last a while. -Thoroughly cleaned out the bilge -...

Bimini to Fort Lauderdale East to West

Hi BandB, excellent read of the state of my mind. We were using weatherfinder, passageweather and Marv's but they don't totally agree with one another. We decided that since we don't want the possibility of heading into anything rough on our first Bimini->FLL crossing AND we really don't need...

Bimini to Fort Lauderdale East to West

We made the crossing from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini about 2 weeks ago. Now it is time to head back to Fort Lauderdale. Looking at the weather/wave reports it looks like I might not want to make the Fort Lauderdale to Bimini crossing tomorrow or Tuesday due to East and ESE winds and waves, but...

    2 heads, 1 stinker

I have an older Italian boat, Cranchi 40. Hose runs are less than 6 feet to holding tank. I actually didn't see any black flecks coming from bowel rim. Filters on raw water intakes look OK. I'd like to get this totally sorted out Peggy-style. Does anybody know a good marine sanitation...

    2 heads, 1 stinker

Thanks all for helping out. Each head has its own raw water intake. The intakes are within 2 feet of each other. Hose length from intakes to heads are each around 6 feet for both heads. I usually put a little water down the hose after pump out to clean out the hose. Maybe I should just send my...

    2 heads, 1 stinker

Smell starts in the head but very quickly consumes entire boat though the boat isn't all that big, the maximum distance from that head to anywhere else on the boat is no more than 12 or 14 feet. Holding tank is in direct center of boat. I have seen black flecks from that particular bowel...

    2 heads, 1 stinker

Thanks. I have her book but this isn't covered. I already use the noflex digestor and the KO products so really shouldn't have any smell at all.

    2 heads, 1 stinker

Hi folks, My boat has 2 heads both going into a common holding tank. Short runs from either head to the holding tank. Flushing head #1 is no problem. Flushing head #2 stinks up the entire 40 foot boat. Stinking will occur no matter what goes down that toilet. Good head is a newer Raritan...

Any body come back from the Bahamas recently?

Thanks for the quick answers. I applied for the DTOPS number last night and was able to use the receipt number to finish the CBP ROAM app registration. Bahamas has moved most of the paperwork online and seems to have dropped most requirements for fully vaccinated North American visitors by boat...

Any body come back from the Bahamas recently?

Just wondering what the rules are for returning vaccinated US citizen cruisers. I see that returning airline passengers need a negative covid test within a couple days of return whether vaccinated or not. I don't see anything regarding people coming back by either large or small boats...

    Transit to Key West Advice

I was going to post the same as Rufus. Lots of bridges, although many of them will be high enough for your boat to pass without an opening. The Palm Beach to Miami ICW has homes and architecture that you will not see anywhere else and you should take that route at least once.

    Daylight readable monitor

Another vote to just get a Panasonic Toughbook off of ebay. With dual batteries you'll get 8-10 hours without even having to plug in.

    Florida Registration Service?

Thanks Larry, I'll give them a call on Monday otherwise I'll just spend the $100 on a NYS renewal until I can get down to Florida.

    Florida Registration Service?

Certainly another good reason to be able to do this remotely. If need be, I'll renew my NY registration and take care of it whenever I get down there.

    Florida Registration Service?

I have a boat that is USCG documented that I have registered in NY for the past 5 years (just the required sticker). Just before the coronavirus I decided that it is staying in Florida but of course DMV closed down, etc. I'm back in NY and would like to register it in Florida and I'd like to...

Had no idea. Many thanks. Now will be banned from the boat.

    Boat fire in our marina

Around here, commercial buildings (including residential over 3(?) units) are required to be professionally monitored AND have at least 2 methods of communication to the central station. Used to be 2 separate phone lines, now a cellular line and an internet connection. Wouldn't be bad if that...

Budget boater desperately seeking nav software

OpenCPN on an older Panasonic Toughbook CF-31. A couple hundred ebay bucks for a nice (though heavy/chunky) waterproof laptop with a daylight viewable screen and built in gps.

    Oil filter TAMD61A

I don't know if this applies to you but on my TAMD63P engines there is a big oil filter and a smaller "bypass" oil filter. Beats me what the bypass filter does but we always change it anyway.

NY Boat in Florida - Get FL registered?

Thanks guys. My 90 days have run out already but hopefully nobody is counting. From the DMV website it looks like I have to do this in person and DMV offices are all closed until April 19. Hopefully the virus situation or at least some of the restrictions can be done by then so I can travel...

NY Boat in Florida - Get FL registered?

I am currently a NY resident and kept my boat docked in NY for many years. I expect that I will remain a legal resident of NY for at least a few more years. I recently brought the boat down to Florida and intend to keep it at a marina there for the foreseeable future or even forever. The...

    Garmin Glo2 Bluetooth GPS

Similar problems with some otherwise perfectly fine gps units interfacing with the non-cellular/non-gps apple ipads. Might be a certifed list for MS like there is for apple.
