Hitting hard enough to kill the engine is not good. You may wish to also check motor mounts and shaft alignment. Good luck, wish you the best.

    Fishing from a trawler

We have used troll valves and dragging chutes on prior boats. Our current boat pulls chutes. They are secured from the bow cleat area and drag back to about midship. The trip line off the aft of the chutes is secured near the aft fishing deck. This arrangements keeps the chutes away from the...

    High hour Lehmans

Our SP 135 has 4000 hours and running the original alternator and belt (28 years). I run the belt just a tad loose and it reduces the wear in the belt and the alternator bearings and still does a great job of charging the batteries. I will probably replace the belt this spring.

    Anchor Locker

I had a friend that carried his rope anchor rode in a basket on the fore deck. In a heavy sea the rode when over the side and was caught in the prop. Unfortunately the boat was near a clif face and drifted into the cliff. My friend died but his two passengers survived. Every time I see a rode...

    Cayenne pepper in bottom paint?

Many years ago I read in National Fisherman magazine that New England lobster fishermen were painting their buoys with wrought iron furniture paint because nothing would grow on it. The ingredients of the paint has some similarities to the band tributal tin bottom paint that worked so well.

    Cushyfloat Engine Mounts

I have installed these on a lobster boat. I worked with Evolution Marine to engineer the right mounts. I highly recommend them, they can engineer and provide what you need. The customer will need to provide detailed vessel and drive system information.

    Tenass Pass Alaska Navigable?

Ken, Rocky Pass is better marked then a few years ago. Most modern GPS equipment also lays a track in the pass. A few years ago I was surprised to see the Grand Banks mother goose parade in the pass. They made it through without a problem. Agree, good idea to speak with folks in Kake. I have had...
