    Downrated HP?

The word "downrated" is probably not the right word. The 3160 had a different fuel pump than the 3208 and the 150 hp rating was probably a use rating direct from Cat without alteration. This particular 3160 @ 150 hp was a common engine in the PNW fishing fleet. I owned the first marine version...

    Downrated HP?

This sounds like perhaps an old continuous duty 3208.

Cat 3126 engines had a soot problem and it took cat a few years to fix the problem. What engines do you have?

What's this Hatt doing on my pulpit?

I would let the insurance company evaluate it because at the end of the day you will be asked by the insurance company to sign off on the repair. If the insurance company does not do the evaluation they request and you sign off on the repair and later find that the repair was incomplete then...

Yes, Maine is a sweet place to boat. Love the seafood and friendly folks. I much prefer the Maine islands to the Gulf Islands. My brother lives in Maine and I forgive him for being a blow boater. I also like their boats having owned a Duffy and a Newman.

Many that live in SE Alaska consider that Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway are within 100 miles of Alaska. Obviously Marin's travel in SE Alaska missed the true remote and strikingly beautiful SE. Just because he choose to just review the tourist centers in SE one does not need to follow him...

The BC coast is nice but there are reasons why the world's major cruise lines go right through BC without out stoping on their way to SE Alaska.

If you later choose to leave the driving to someone else the Alaska Dream Cruise is by far the best. They are usually booked up a year in advance. A little expensive but worth every cent. No, the usual fine print, no relationship with them.

    Composite Hull

I believe the kit supplied silicon bronze screws, so that is what we used. I have built other boats using "boat nails" and glue. Overall, building boats was good for me in my teenage years. It also got me onto the water in a wild and beautiful area. The last boat I built for a friend in 2007...

Eric, Yes, I glassed the outside with too many layers by today's standards. The interior of the hull was saturated with cuprinol preservative. When I saw the boat last there was zero rot due to the cuprinol. Resorcinol glue was used and thousands of screws driven with brace and bit. The engine...

In 1961 I built a 21 foot cabin cruiser this way. It was a Chris Craft kit sold by Sears. Sold the boat in 1964 and it is still going strong. It has had many owners over the years and greatly abused. The current owner repaired areas at a very low cost and uses the boat daily as a commuter. This...

Eric, You are correct, Sitka is very well protected. Sea can be over 20 feet outside but almost nothing in the harbor. Very unusual forecast Friday for Sitka, winds 60k with guts to 80k. Harbors were very busy today with folks adding lines to their boats.

Best value in a trailerable trawler

You may want to check out Hewescraft. Made in the west and has a dealer in Chicago area. We have owned a Hewes since 2010. There are a number here in Alaska and a growing number visiting from BC and Washingtion. This past summer a Montana owner towed his boat to Shagway, Alaska, explored SE...
