We have a 1989 Eagle 32. Only the aft deck is teak and no problems.

    Refit: East vs West coast?

Many Alaskans have major boat work in BC. It is even a better deal due to a savings on the exchange rate of 23-25%. I agree with those that believe in complete instructions, a cost estimate and oversight of the work.

    Teak decks on Eagle 32?

Our boat is a 1989 and only the aft cockpit deck is teak. All others are fiberglass. I understand the aft teak deck is glued down. I had the teak deck inspected a few months ago and the shipwright confirmed no issues. I suggest calling Transpacific to ask about the decks. Sorry I can not be more...

Mark, your first photo appears similar to the east side of Swindel Island in BC.

    Gunk In The Diesel ?

I agree with this post. One should use choose an additive based on local conditions.

    Gunk In The Diesel ?

Interesting that Biobar MD was brought to market and has similar additives as Stanadyne. This is what Biobar recommends for marine diesels. The U.S. Airforce uses Stanadyne. GM and Ford only approved diesel additive is Stanadyne.

    Gunk In The Diesel ?

We use Stanadyne and like it for our weather that is very wet. "Stanadyne Performance Formula protects against fuel gelling; lubricates, cleans & protects entire fuel system; increases cetane (resulting in more horsepower, easier starting, and quieter running); reduces smoke; demulsifies water...

    Float Plane, Alaska

This is so sad. For those of us that have experienced Alaska scud flying the accident is too close to our experience. I learned to fly floats in Alaska in the early 60's and try as I may to avoid the scud it still occasionally is there. There is a quote from the book "The Thosand Mile War" that...

    The Pacific 'Blob'

When this has happened in the past we see large sun fish, sea turtles and schools of tuna off the coast of Sitka. The tuna fishing can be great.

We use Armorall wheel and tire cleaner. Let soak in for 10 minutes and scrub it with a scotch bright pad.

    Eagle Olympics

Another way to define the PNW is by similar vegatation. The forest of cedar, hemlock and spruce spans from Northern California to Afognak Island in Alaska. There are some slight variations in this huge forest but the the forest is more consistent then diverse. Perhaps there is a forester among...

Very common way of eagle fishing. We see it close to a dozen times a year.

    Is this a quality swivel?

I kept the swivel around for awhile for show and tell and eventually threw it away. It is my understanding that it is important to install a shackle between the anchor and the swivel in order to reduce the risk of the swivel separating. Yes, I believe it was a Kong.

    Is this a quality swivel?

I had one on another boat that bent and partially opened while at anchor. Never again for me.

    The Navy

I did a hitch in the Navy back in the 60s. The Navy is somewhat like any program, you get out of it what you put into it. Overall, it was a very good thing for me.

    Race to Alaska

I wish them all safe travels. We just completed N Vancouver to Sitka with great weather, not a drop of rain. A row boat in Johnstone Strait does not sound like fun.
