    Alaska Bound

I understand all these BC miles just are not marketable for the cruise lines. Perhaps there are reasons that the free market enterprise likes SE Alaska.

    Alaska Bound

American Cruise Lnes has a nice trip within the northern part of SE Alaska that starts in Juneau and returns to Juneau. Perhaps the best small ship cruise is Alaska Dream Cruise owned by Allen Marine. When the ships travel through BC they do not stop because there is so much more in SE Alaska...

How to make a Prairie go fast

The tracking issue may be related to a condition called keel walking. This can occur when the bottom of the keel is wide enough to be a planning surface. This is why fast lobster hulls have narrow keel bottoms.

Lehman SP 135 vs. SP 225 turbo

Our boat is a 32 foot trawler with the sp 135. It has plenty of hp for the hull, some may say over powered. The sp 135 is a non electronic engine with simple maintanance and good parts availability.

    Towing a 19' fishing boat/dinghy?

Has it been mentioned to consider using floating line in order to reduce the chance of line in the rudder or prop? I have towed a 16 foot Lund with 25 hp ob with no problems.

    Pot pullers

We use the Ace puller, mounts to the Scotty Downrigger base and plugs into the Scotty 12 volt socket, and stores in a bag.

    Welded Aluminum Crestliner Runabout

We own a 22 Hewescraft that we use for fishing. It is lighter then fiberglass and durable. Most new small boats sold here are now of this type, almost no new fiberglass boats sold here for the past 20 years. About 95% of the several dozen fishing charter boats are aluminum. I have owned...

    CAT 3208 new knock

Rob, the cat 3160 is the earlier engine to the 3208 and would work as a replacement if you are unable to find another 3208. If you need to remove your engine it may fit through a window. I have stuck a fork through a boat window to remove an engine. Just some random thoughts.

I dropped a Downrigger over off a skiff. A guest dropped a fishing pole over. Yes, I carry spare eyeglasses, never needed them.

Eric, We have enjoyed the west side of POW. Even bought a lot in Port St Nick many years ago and thought we would build a cabin. After owning it for 20 years we never did build and sold it. Ken

    "Gates" on the Inside Passage

Thank you Sam for your posts. I have enjoyed following your group. I have made the trip north from Puget Sound to Alaska a number of times and never saw the water as calm as you have, especially in Johnstone.

    PNW Cruisers

We love the outside and carefully pick the weather. Sitka is located with instant access to the outside waters or the inside passages. This is the reason we live here. Oh, and the fishing is not bad here.

    Kayaks

We like the sand piper too, just does not fit the boat.

    Kayaks

We store an eddyline Sky kayak. It is 10 ft long and weighs 32 pounds and is unsinkable. Because it is stored on deck a cockpit cover helps keep the rain out and the interior clean.
