    Anchor setting Videos

I have enjoyed this thread very much. The anchor design appears to headed in the direction of an anchor that can penetrate most bottoms, stay upright, greatly reduces the risk of the "Bruce rock" by attaching the shank closer to the tip and has a wide fluke for holding in soft bottoms. These are...

    Where did you grow up?

I grew up racing home built boats. My brother bought a 21 foot Chris Craft kit from Sears which I put together for him during my high school years. He powered it with a 70 hp tower of power. That old boat survives to this day. I learned to fly at at an early age and thought I would be a...

    Re-treating Sunbrella

RT, we use Aqua-Tite on all canvas and Sunbrella. It works well in our very rainy town of Sitka. The local canvas shop sells it. Our boat cover is Sunbrella and it works fine with no damage.

    Engine checks under way

I wait until the "check engine" light comes on. That is what it is for, right?

    Cruising Alaska

I recommend the U.S. coast pilot and the BC equivalent. They are not crusing guides but are descriptive of the waters, bays and dangers.

    Boat lost in Bellingham

Indeed the Sitka sac roe fishery is on two hour notice. The herring are here very early and have caught many of the participants by surprise. The Alaska fish cop boat Kestral which manages the fishery began entering the Sitka area from Juneau about an hour ago. It is slowly checking out the...

    Plastic or Cash?

Oh, be sure to let your card company know in advance of your travel plans or risk having the transaction denied.

    Plastic or Cash?

If you are using a credit card from a U.S. bank, traveling through BC it is much easier to use a credit card for payment in BC. Yes, there is a charge by the card company but the exchange rate will be correct.

Can you help me scouting 3208s?

I believe the continues rating is 2400 rpm. You will need to know what the engines are rated. Yes, the pleasure rated engines are 2800 rpm.

    Boat hunting in Seattle area

You may wish to consider looking in BC. Make your best deal there and then take 30% off due to the exchange rate on the Canadain dollar. You will need a broker that has a solid history of sales into US. Brian Kell at Grand Yachts in Vancoure does well. Fine print, not associated with Brian...

    Alaska/boating newbie seeking info

I have worked on the 34 mainship and the 32 bayliner. I much prefer the former, I can hardly fit in the ER of the bayliner. There is a fellow here that is the size of a 12 yo boy that most of the bayliner owners use to work in the ER.

    Share Your 1st Time Experience!!!

Made the trip three times, 1986, 2003 and 2015. Not many marinas in remote BC or Southeast Alaska. Plan on enjoying swinging on the pick, underway at day light and watch the tides and weather. Oh yes, the best pizza in remote BC is in Shearwater.
