    Where experience comes from...

RCook, you did not tells us the whole story of that area, like what did you do in Rosey's Bar and Grill in Pelican.

Salmon University in WA - Has anyone gone to this?

An old timer taught me that there are two rules for fishing and he did not know which one was most important. They are, go where the fish are and the other rule is to take along enough food so you can eat your way out of any situation you get into. Yep, these rules have always worked for me.

    Fiberglass putty boat?

Love the Cat engine although it appears that it maybe a 3160 rather than a 3208. Not much difference between the two engines.

    Interesting boats

Al, Thanks for posting. That video was taken in front of house. They often fish very close to shore and one can clearly hear the skippers yelling at each other. I did a hitch in the Navy and ever year I learn a few new cuss words from these guys. If the sound was on for the video it probably...

    Fiberglass putty boat?

Chic, I strongly believe that you are approaching the boat buying research correctly. I understand that some think that you are acting in an over the top way, but they do not have any skin in the game. It is easy for folks on a forum like this to write a check with their fingers that you can...

    Interesting boats

The reason for the growing hp in the power skiffs is because the fishing has turned into combat fishing. This requires seiners to compete with other boats for the same school of fish. It is common to see boats raming each other and corking the next guy in an attempt to get a good set. Sitka has...

    Fiberglass putty boat?

We live near a haul out and enjoy an evening's walk to view the various repairs to the boat hulls, cored new and old, solid glass, wood and metal. One of the new high end cored hull boats hit a wood 2X4 which penetrated and was stuck in boat. Perhaps Pascoe has seen similar damage and this is...

    "europa"

We catch and eat a lot of fish. The Europa is much better for fishing with the lower aft deck and access to the the fishing gear. For us fishing people the standard tri cab is a non starter. Our current boat, with the aft salon, fishes similar to a Europa.

    Prelube setup

After a few seconds of turning the engine over holding the stop button down I note the oil pressure rise according to the oil pressure gauge. Probably not perfect pre lube but better then just starting the engine without using this method.

I crank the old FL a little while holding down the stop button. There.... It is pre lubed.

    Rudder Modifications

The Transpacific Eagle 32 was designed by well known NW designer Ken Hankenson for Glen L boats to be made in steel called the Union Jack. The plans for the Union Jack are still sold by Glen L. Transpacific Marine, a well know sailboat maker, asked him to design the Union Jack to be made with...

    Rudder Modifications

Same boat here. I have owned single screw boats since the 80s and find this boat needs a little more prop wash than others I have owned. For the first time single screw operator there is a bit of a learning curve. No plans to alter the rudder here. If you add to the rudder please let know how...

    Counting eagles

Sorry Marin, it is a myth that Eagles cannot release their talons. We live on the beach next to a nest in a very active area of Eagles fishing. They catch and release often while flying and or swimming. They can release but often do not choose to. For further conversation on this topic you may...

    Counting eagles

Those that wish to see eagles I recommend the Annual Alaska Bald Eagle Festival in Haines. This year it is November 7-13. Expect to see 3000 bald eagles gather here to feed on salmon carcass. Yes, this is their natural habitat.

SK, our boat has a custom exhaust made by a fellow that has made numerous custom exhausts, especially for FL engines. Sorry, I am not able to be helpful.

    water heater question

A residential water heater that has upper and lower heating elements does heat hot water. When the water is run the upper element comes on and heats the hot water as it leaves the heater and makes the hot water a little hotter.

Additionally, this is truly not a passive system and is probably miss named in that the load on the boat is a dynamic load.

    Paravanes F/S

I have installed on a pilot house trawler. Additionally I have fished on several commercial trollers that use this system. In general there are several things you may wish to consider in designing the system. Generally the poles and supports are located very close to the area of maximum beam...

A marine machinist mentioned that GB have a well know shaft strut alignment problem. He indicated this has created various area of damage to the cutless, the log, the shaft, the strut and/or several of these in combination. I do not know Marin's problem but the misaligned shaft strut is a known...
