    SeaPipers - Why?

Ive been on that glass, and thankful that the bag prank wasn't played on me.

    SeaPipers - Why?

Careful, a good friend of mine is a Captain w/BC Ferries - Tsawwassen-Victoria route. As an aside, he complained that too many small vessels have AIS, clogging up the the nav display.

    The 36th Americas Cup

I really like the foiling monohulls. A huge step up in speed (vs monohull) and entertainment, and ramps up the high tech element, like in Formula 1 car racing. I never liked the catamarans. It is most definitely still sailing. Teamwork, boat handling, navigation, trimming, reading the...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Thanks Nomad Willy for the kind words. I think I need a bow rail, if only for safety. I actually do appreciate the comments on improving the aesthetics, and I don't necessarily disagree with any of them. But priorities are still on core functionality. Still much work to do. My goodness, I...

GoneFarrell, would be fun to have a sister ship get together. Travel is a mess right now, but next summer is starting to have a glimmer of hope. No idea on how Mr.Farrell is doing, but hope he is enjoying retirement, and basking in his indelible legacy of PNW boatbuilding.

Thanks IanMac for your enthused reply. Your Farrell looks great, a real classic and classy vibe. I've gone for the sportfish look on the pilothouse. My pilothouse is aluminumized fibreglass on marine okume plywood, but yeah it looks like aluminum and reflects radar like aluminum. Very happy...

My Favorite Way To Make Coffee

I used to use an electric drip coffee machine, but is electricity intensive. Now boil water on propane stove and use a Melitta stainless vacuum thermal carafe with pour-over filter drip...

    Best boat breakfasts

:thumb: Poached eggs, sausages, and hashbrowns, with freshly ground drip coffee. The boat doesn't leave the dock until the coffee grinder has been confirmed to be in full working order.

    Capturing dust while sanding bottom

When I sanded the bottom of my boat this spring, I used a 3M Random Orbital Sander - Elite Series 28561, Air-Powered, Central Vacuum, 5 Inch, 3/8" Orbit and a Dyson DC37 for sucking up the dust. Work very well - pretty much zero dust, but the Dyson filter needed frequent cleaning. You also...

Thanks Eric, I won't leave that detail out. Thanks Ben. Interestingly enough, a friend just gave me a sail, mast, boom, rudder, and daggerboard from some sort of 8 footer of the same type. The wife was wondering about a motor, but will most likely will be a rowboat I've realized that the...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Thanks! :socool: Thanks, and I agree. I would like to put the radar the same as the NP28, but I have the dry stack exhaust, and I was worried about potential interference, esp. in my critical blind spot. No worries Lou, and I appreciate your awareness of the risk of criticism on someone’s...

So here is what I was sort of aiming for..... North Pacific 28 the result...... Barrie Farrell 29 I hope Mr. Farrell likes it. :) Links to autobiography of the hull builder. Harbour Publishing: Boats in My Blood https://www.amazon.ca/Boats-My-Blood-Life-Boatbuilding/dp/1550177559

True. And that particular issue certainly not unexpected given the age of the panel. ;) I'll have to figure out if its the sender or the gauge or connection in-between. At least the oil pressure alarm works. I couldn't be happier with how everything has turned out. I'll enjoy a few more...

Truly, it is. Humpback whale. Chatham Sound is like glass..... Halibut fishing. Ah,yes! Halibut!!!!!!! 31 lb Chinook salmon. So does your trawler have 4 USB charging ports? :D Darn oil pressure gauge stopped working. The turbo pressure gauge hasn't worked for a while...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Good points. I'm stuck with what I got, but it was entirely unexpected to have the speed that I have now, as I never had that before. I like my boat even more now. But now that I have speed, well, I want to keep it! Will be very handy in those uncomfortable following seas, or if I have...

Thanks for the compliments. The overhang is enough to sit on the back bench without getting rain (on your head/body, at least!) , and enjoying a fine single malt scotch! :thumb: But I agree with your thoughts (even if our preferences on whiskey differ! :flowers:) , and I had the idea of a...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Dan, I agree! Ted, that’s a good idea. Some boaters here even have remote cameras in the engine space. I was told of a story where someone’s wet exhaust failed , and didn’t notice until they had 3 feet of water in the bilge. The camera went in after that. However, it’s Canadian regulation...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

I only did a quick (non scientific) check on the first day, and the engine room wasn’t particularly warm. It wasn’t a long run, and I was preoccupied with the stuffing box and the previously mentioned leak concern. I did another longer run today, with a remote temperature sensor, and temps...

The leak repair. I waited and waited, and no water seeped out. Hopefully it will continue to hold when under way. Radar will need to be shimmed so it doesn't aim skyward. A sweet day, puttering around on the boat. :o

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Yep, really happy about that, and I think thats as fast as I need to go. 3000rpm is as high as I dare for a short burn. Engine max rpm is 4k, and I have no doubt it will get to 4k, but I haven't tried that yet. Oh, the mate likes it, alright. She wouldn't let me have the wheel. Yep...
