    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Bulge pump testing. Those two passed. My small automatic didn’t, probably gummed up and from sitting too long. Impeller was not spinning freely. Backing for the sea-cocks. I’m cutting new ones. The old ones weren’t well cut, especially where it matters (inside hole), so here is an...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Sliding door bottom groove. Its adjustable, and replaceable if anything rots or wears out without violating the main house structure in any future repair. This door slides very nicely with a good solid feel. Very happy with how it turned out. Quite possibly the ugliest part of the boat...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

This is good advice. So back to posting pictures of progress... and happy 4th of July weekend! And belated happy Canada day too. I have been slowing down, on the account of my workshop getting hotter (more tiring to work inside), and the rather nice outside weather we are having. And some...

    Electronics networking, NEMA or other?

I'm(re)building a 30' boat here: http://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s25/farrell-trawler-rebuild-project-40220-12.html#post776144 I'm not going to provide advice, but I'll tell you what I'm doing. I have an older Garmin 421s (chart plotter + sounder) that will be backup only for navigation +...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

This is the kind of support that I've come to expect from members of TF. :D EDIT: I only needed 6, so I didn't consider the larger package. Ok, you don't have to quote ABYC! :flowers: I agree about ABYC being arbitrary in many cases, sometimes overkill, and sometimes curious, when you...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

I couldn't find fully shielded spade connectors in my small town. Good point tho. I like your staggered connection idea. Where I can, I'm trying to keep exposed positive and negative away from each other. When wiring is completed, I will go back and clean/dielectric grease all the...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Hi Ted, I appreciate that you acknowledge that commenting on someone else's wiring could result in psychological trauma and/or fits of rage. :D I do have wiring loom that I will be cutting into small sections for the bulkheads. This would be an ABYC requirement. ABYC requires that cables...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Electrical progress - Effort made to be ABYC compliant At the back of the boat there is a battery selector that switches between the "marine starting/running" bank and the "RV/house" bank. The red selector in the pilot house is so I can turn the power off and do wiring, and I will have two...

Mock up #1 Mock up #2 - decided I didn't like silver with natural binding Using the innegra/basalt fabric, This will be it for now. Might revisit/revise later. Getting closer but so much more to do yet.......

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Mock up of main anchor line cleat attachment. 3 layers of 3/4" Joubert Okume. I think I'll use a slightly thinner backing plate. A little overkill maybe? using a wire wheel to "brush" the aluminum, so it matches the (outside of) boat better. Side cleat attached. Those just have...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Non marine 1 gauge cable original from the old version of the boat. Probably 30 years in the bilge. The end was sealed with electrical tape. Surprisingly, the end is only slightly discoloured and in the middle the copper is still fairly bright. But I'm using marine grade tinned (ouch$$$)...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Perhaps I wasn't entirely clear, but my air box does function like a Dorade box. Here is the hole where the water can drain out. Finished this part, whatever its called. Darth Vader helmet inspired..... Bow vents to the bilge. Vent into pilot house, starboard side. If the cabin...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Great minds think alike! The air box is a water trap, and is self draining, and there is hole to the exterior thru the bulkhead. :thumb:

i'm definitely in a cooler climate, but its also wet. Sliding door roof overhang noted -good point. I don't have anything much there, and will have to see how it comes together, and mitigate if water ingress is an issue. Thanks for that photo, nice radar! I'm trying to keep the pilot house...

One other thing I will point out is that none of the windows open. This is why I have the forward facing air scoops to have efficient fresh cabin air venting when underway, and even stationary. And if that isn't enough, well, thats when the doors get opened.

Hi Ted, don't apologize, you aren't being critical. I am appreciative of your interest in my project, and your observations. I benefit from your wisdom, and the others who have also taken the time. :) Answer is yes. There will be cover/cabinet of some sort. I won't get to that until towards...

windows are in! I like how this is coming together. Many posts back, someone asked about why the carbon fibre. I think this is (partly) what I was trying to say. Picture = 1000 words. The aesthetic of the black rubber window frames and the black carbon fibre. I like this look...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Hydraulic lines completed..... Unfortunately the steering cylinder is leaking. :( Further inspection of the cylinder shows that there are lots of mini dents in the ram. This is my fault for not protecting the ram (removing the whole thing, or at least retracting the ram) during...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Thats interesting. You are correct in that soft copper tubing is ridiculously easy to kink while handling it. I hadn't thought of sand, as all the literature on the helm pumps etc. is that everything should be kept as clean as possible The copper tubing came sealed. Introducing sand would be...

Thanks FlyWright, those pictures of your sliding door help. I'm overthinking it..... Nose vents for bilge Port side forward cabin vent Hydraulic schematic - Grab handles Tools for fools...... Practice makes perfect...... more pictures to come! and windows are on the way!

Hi Ted, thats a great question (why? because the answer will be long....). Short answer: yes and yes. Long answer to follow....:socool: Going against the nautical grain, the boat came with port side helms front and rear, and port hydraulic cylinder. For me to be happy with moving the helms to...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Hi Syjos, thanks for the kind and reasoned words. Good questions, but I'm not retired, and I'm not a pro. But I'm somehow making it through with intention, research, planning, effort, and yes, many hours.... Test fitting hinges, starboard door. Sliding door and frame reinforcement, but...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Nothing exciting, but the show goes on~! Work on the hinged door frame (starboard). Door will open downwind, the safe way. Reinforcement of the port frame (sliding) - I still don't know how this will come together.... Ah yes, this annoying detail. Space for one's head, when stepping...

I wish! So much more to do.. glass, hydraulics, helms, dashboard, electrical, plumbing, heating, hand rails, cleats, anchor, down riggers, drink holders (haha) .. and on and on... i'm not sure if it ends :banghead: All small jobs, but tons of details and fiddling. I was hoping to...

    Farrell Trawler Rebuild Project

Comodave, stamina is one thing, summer distractions are another...... I hope I can maintain momentum. I think I have slowed down slightly...... The port side is sliding, and the starboard side will be hinged. Because of the dry stack exhaust on the starboard side, there is nowhere for a...
