    Renting a Trawler

We chartered for a week at Southwest Florida Yachts when we started looking for a cruising boat. It was a Mainship 40 and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Learned a lot about what we did and didn't like/need. Some of what we learned was not what we expected so it was very worthwhile.

    From MFD to Smart TV

No, but my Raymarine Axiom MFD's have a Netflix app built in. Or are you trying to display the MFD info on your TV?

    Raymarine ClearCruise Augmented Reality

I just did a complete Raymarine install including Axiom displays, AP, radar, AIS, etc. at two helms. I installed the AR-200 to be my external GPS antenna so I'll be able to use the AR feature with the addition of a camera if I decide to. Interested to hear how useful you and others think this is.

Not in the PNW but still relatively new to TF. We also bought a slip almost a year before we found our boat as slips in our area are hard to come by. Welcome to TF :)

    First dinghy question

Thanks for all the great input! The largest I can put on the swim platform without interfering with the transom door is 9' using the horizontal pull-up style (Hurley or Trickdavits). I do like the Seawise system and it would allow for a larger dink but more $ and more parts/weight to hang on the...

    First dinghy question

We purchased our first cruising boat last winter. Until this year, this was always an inland lake boat and we have been busy getting her set up for cruising the east coast and hopefully the loop in 2021. One of our last upgrades left to do is adding a tender and a way to store/launch it. Never...

    Finally Heading South

I remember seeing you. This is our home marina and we love Joseph's too. They make an awesome soft shell crab appetizer or main which is my favorite. :thumb: Rusty Hooks is getting their act together after opening last spring so that's another alternative.

    Folding Radar Tower

They made the pedestal as part of the order. Here are two pictures showing the mount upright and folded down. This radar dome is also WiFi but I also have a GPS antenna and navigation/anchor lights on it.

    Folding Radar Tower

I used a company called Nautical Creations to fabricate a hinged radar mount for me a couple of months ago. He's in Louisville, KY. Custom makes everything to fit customer's specific needs at a very reasonable price. Got exactly what I needed, fabricated and delivered in about 10 days...

    Another Vacuflush Question

Thanks for all the great suggestions. :thumb: Now my biggest challenge is finding a 60# assistant that can get to the vacuum generators to do these things. :banghead:

    Another Vacuflush Question

Rather than start another thread titled "Another Vacuflush Question" I thought I would tag on to this one. I have two Vacuflush heads and both seem to function well with vacuum recharging after about 35-40 pump cycles, about 30 seconds. However they sound very different when recharging. One...

Moving a big boat by truck

We hired a transport company to move our 47' pilot house boat 1,200 miles from Oklahoma to the North Carolina coast. He did the job turn-key with his crew removing much of the flybridge and re-assembling it on the other end. It was just under 16' so it took a lot of planning. But it worked out...

    ZF 80A transmission

I have the same transmissions and used Castrol Transmax DEX/MERC transmission fluid from Advance Auto. Says it meets Dextron III. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/castrol-transmax-dex-merc-transmission-fluid-1-gallon-159fcb/8140021-p

Does Glomex weBBoat work with Verizon?

Thanks for the input. I had not considered the different frequencies that these devices cover. I assumed a cellular antenna would cover all common frequencies. Looks like the Wave WiFi MBR550 would be a better choice but it still doesn't cover the BTC band. I wonder if any of them do??

Does Glomex weBBoat work with Verizon?

I've read some past threads that indicated the Glomex weBBoat antenna did not work with a Verizon account/SIM card. Does anyone know if this is still the case? I have a Verizon unlimited prepaid plan and jetpack and would like to find a better receiver. I've asked Glomex and they don't know and...

refrigerator upper summer galley 40ft trawler

I believe all 120/12V marine fridges actually run on 12V all the time. When 120V is provided, it goes through a transformer on the control unit to convert it to 12V. If no 120V is provided, it operates on direct 12V via a dedicated DC circuit. Switching is automatic. So, yes, it is wired to both...

    Fridge a/c or a/c-d/c

Would like to tag onto this thread with a related question. If 12V operation is usually more efficient, why would anyone need an AC/DC unit as opposed to a less expensive DC only? I have an AC/DC unit but the AC side doesn't work so I run it on DC only even though we are almost always on shore...

48 navigator with under hull exhaust

We recently purchased a 2008 Navigator 46 that also has primary underwater exhaust. We brought it down to her home port on Easter Sunday which was our first good 2 to 3 hour run. At higher RPM’s I felt the same burping shudder (best description I can come up with) from the fly bridge and the...

    Marina cable is analog

Riverguy, I think you nailed it but I will check all my connections too. I don't think my signal is weak, it just looks like analog TV from 10 years ago and we're not used to that. Didn't know if I could hook up a converter box to "find" the digital signal. Thanks for the replies :thumb:

    Marina cable is analog

We're new to the cruising scene so please excuse our dumb questions. Our home marina has cable to the each pedestal and it seems to work fine but the signal is analog so not very clear. While there are far fewer channels, our over-the-air HDTV antenna pulls in a much clearer picture. Is there a...

    Carpet cleaning?

Our new to us boat has carpet throughout. We're not fans of carpet but it's still in good shape so we will keep it for a couple more years before we swap it out for hard flooring. My question is what is the best way to give it a good cleaning? Do you rent one of the bulky rental seam cleaners...

    Adding a Second Autopilot

I will admit that I like having a display (mine are all Simrad) verifying the AP is or is not engaged via the MFD and/or the AP head unit. So not having either of those in the lower helm might be troubling.
  23. W

    Adding a Second Autopilot

I was suggesting you could use the remote from the lower helm station in place of a second hard wired control. If you normally engage and adjust your AP by line of sight or course as displayed on your Furuno MFD's it could take the place of a second AP 24/28 head unit.
  24. W

    Adding a Second Autopilot

Adding a second AP head via Simnet should work. Also, an alternative would be to install a Simrad WR10 wireless remote if your autopilot computer is a Simrad AC12, AC24 or NAC-x. With this wireless device you can engage, disengage and change your AP course almost anywhere on the boat. The only...

    Bareboat charters.

We chartered with them last summer for the same reason. Wife and I loved it and we have since purchased our cruising boat. SWF Yachts was great!
