    Westerbeke Air Intake Hose Needed

Perfect! Just ordered it. I had forgotten about this company -- I remember having their catalog decades ago (before internet) and used them quite often for supplies when I was building wood kayaks. What a great selection of hoses/ducting. Thanks, dvd

    Westerbeke Air Intake Hose Needed

Been looking all over for an air supply hose running from the inside of the sound shield air inlet to the engine air inlet. This is a black wire-reinforced non-flammable hose heavier than a vent hose but not as heavy as an exhaust hose. It is 2.5 inches I.D. and I need three feet of it...

    Princess Electric Stove/Oven

I'm putting in a combo microwave/convection oven in place of the oven and a single induction cooktop to replace the stove. The microwave fits in the oven cutout, although I'll build a shelf to bring it up several inches. This will give me about a 4-5 inch space below the microwave which I will...

Sliding doors-hard to open and close

Solving that problem is on my list also. I found this site (http://www.ptreeusa.com/uhmwproducts.htm) which has Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) plastic strips which I plan on putting under the doors and some short lengths installed on the bottom of the doors where the rollers are now. That...

    What would you do?

At this point, the only reason I would trade out my 37 ft. trawler would be to get a boat with stabilizers. We do only coastal cruising, but that sometimes means 10-20 miles offshore for some lengthy (24 hrs.+) passages where having a stabilized boat would really add to the comfort. I don't have...

    Bottom and blisters

So when I bought my boat (1987 TT) surveyor said no issue with blisters -- when I hauled and painted the bottom a month or so later, I saw a few areas of tiny blisters (1-2mm diameter) that did not deform the bottom at all. I painted and splashed. I plan on stripping the bottom of many coats of...

Steve, I like that idea -- interested to see how it holds up. dvd

    Less Rode, Same Scope

A recent dock-side discussion was about using a bow eye for your snubber line. One boat had a stout bow eye about a foot above the waterline with a nylon line eye-spliced into it. He uses a rolling hitch to attach to his all-chain rode. This puts his anchor line effectively five feet lower than...

    Princess Electric Stove/Oven

We are re-doing the galley on our recently bought boat and selling the Seaward Princess 3 burner stove & oven. The boat was built in '87 and I suspect the stove was new then, although it has obviously had very little use. It functions fine. New these things go for around $1000 -- this isn't new...

Dock Lines (Spinoff from Labeling Lines)

All the docks here float... After 45 years of boating on the West Coast, I'm learning some new techniques here on the East Coast -- many marinas have fixed docks on pilings and the typical tie-up is stern-in with crossed stern lines, bow lines to pilings waaaay in front of the boat and both...

Dock Lines (Spinoff from Labeling Lines)

I's a little off-topic from labeling lines, so I started a new thread to ask the question -- which line do you secure first when docking? Jleonard wrote:*I have lines secured to rails bow and stern, so those are the first to get used anyway, and after that I am secure. Then I go look in the...

I could probably call it a "marine tray" and sell it for about a hundred bucks! dvd

    Bridge Tray

Don't know about you, but while moving around the boat when underway we always like to have at least one hand free to grab some support in case she rolls for whatever reason. This can be a problem if either of us is bringing a couple cups of coffee/drinks/snacks/etc. up to the bridge, especially...

    Labeling lines.

The webbing on my chain/rode is completely ignored by the windlass. I decided against color coding my rode (I just use a dark color) because I found it difficult to distinguish colors in low or no light. I use a different number of tags next to each other to signify different depths. dvd

    Labeling lines.

I hand-sew a short length of polyester webbing (can get in many colors) to the line to identify it. I also use this to mark every 25 ft. on my anchor chain and rode (using a code so I can tell what depth is marked). dvd

How did you come to love boats and the sea?

Other than my grandfather coming from Ireland on a tramp steamer (after he sold his ticket for the Titanic), there's no family history of even being around water. My father was hydrophobic -- never even learned how to swim. My family had very little money and the first boat ride I can remember...

    Pictures From Annapolis

This catamaran is a Catfisher motorsailer built by Fisher Marine. I have looked at them in the past and was aboard one in the Upper Chesapeake last year. They are very roomy for a 28 ft. boat. The beam is just over 13 ft. with a 3.5 ft. draft. Power configurations varied quite a bit with some...

    One Chartplotter, Two Stations

    One Chartplotter, Two Stations

Just got back from the boat show in Annapolis where I talked to a couple of people about a new product from Raymarine. It is called the e7 and is the typical chartplotter/MFD but has GPS and WiFi built in ( http://www.raymarine.com/default.aspx?site=1&section=2&page=2016 ). It is compatible with...

    One Chartplotter, Two Stations

I like the idea of a primary unit at one station and a repeater at the other. I assume it would be too optimistic to think that I could use my current Garmin 2010C as a repeater for, say, a new Garmin 4208? The 2010C is NMEA 0183 the 4208 is NMEA 2000. Having a second, self-contained unit for...

    One Chartplotter, Two Stations

So I'm looking to upgrade from a 10 year-old system and plan on purchasing a chartplotter and radar. I would like to be able to use the chartplotter at both helm stations, but was told by a salesman that duplicate wiring from the sensors (GPS antenna, AIS, sounder, radar, etc.) would be just as...

    Sea Watch Power Supply Wanted

Since we've got a TV antenna theme going here, I'll add my post. My boat came with a 2030G Sea Watch antenna but no power supply. Before I contact Shakespeare to see how much a replacement might cost, does anyone have a power supply they are not using anymore?I'll gladly pay a reasonable price...

    Hershine

I recently purchased a 1987 Newburyport 37 in Rhode Island and have brought it down to Chesapeake Bay. I have found very little history on the company which imported this boat from the Hershine yard, but apparently there were several (some say up to 30 boats) which were brought in and outfitted...

    Maintenance Tips

i have heard that soaking for a couple of hours in hydrogen peroxide (3% - what you buy at the drug store) will remove yellow stains from most any kind of plastic. I'd try it on an inconspicuous spot first, though, just in case it had any other effect. dvd
