    Depreciation rate for boat upgrades

I agree with Jim "I would offer that quite often "upgrades" are really part of maintenance and not really improvements. I have heard folks often say that "upgrades" often don't raise the value of a boat, but make that boat a lot easier to sell." I believe that attempting to scientifically...

    Mainship Pilot swim platform

Use acetone to help dry the holes. If cored, once holes are dry, overdrill, fill w epoxy, redrill. Then bolts w fender washers or backing plates, bedded in 4200 or butyl tape. Do it once, should last forever...or whatever the boat maintenance equivalent of forever is.

12V breaker panel LED indicator light replacement

LED voltage Be sure not to use 12V LEDs, your charging system is over 14V. 12V LEDs will burn out again.

    2021 Cruising Plans

Lobster Pots in Maine After many cruises to Maine (sail and power), I do not know anyone who has Not snagged a lobster pot line. The further east, the thicker the fields of bouys. And those toggles... Sail through them when you can, under power your spinning prop pulls them in.

    batteries need replacement

Adjust charging system Any change to battery type requires reset of charging system. And if using echo charger for any batteries...all must be same battery technology. I would take a look at all the boat's batteries as you make this decision. Sometimes saving $$ costs more in the long run...

Mainship 430 Aft Cabin - Dinghy Lift and Dinghy

Agree w first sentence. Disagree w 80%. Shockload of dinghy/motor/fuel on davits in a seaway will likely require far more than 20% safety factor. I would go w 100% or more. Of course I am a belt + suspenders person. I do not have physics/data to back up my comment, just many years experience.

2006 Mainship 400 Single DC Wiring Schematic?

Disclaimer: I have a 34 Pilot, not a 400.. That said, I have seen enough 10+ year old boats to know that many modifications have likely been made since new. Perhaps someone can comment on whether stern thruster was even a factory option on 400 in 2006? My point is, there is a reasonably good...

    How does your dinghy hang?

Dinghy on Davits I have found that securing the raised dinghy from Any Movement is critical to reducing loads and risks. I use a ratchet strap (from far side of transom to opposite end davit - transom mount end), a line tied from near side of transom to same end davit - transom mount end) and...

An interesting read on the security of GPS

In my opinion, electrical/electronic failure on your vessel is much more likely culprit than GPS hacking/spoofing/failure. And is reason that paper charts, dividers, parallel rules, binoculars and hand bearing compass are on all my boats.

    What's for dinner?

Definitely NOT Spam, Dinty Moore, etc. Vacuum seal and freeze meats, etc. No air in the package means they keep longer, even once thawed.
