    PNW Trawler Market - Prices

So, is say 45% appreciation over last 6 yrs something to be expected in today's market ? Or would it be too optimistic?

    PNW Trawler Market - Prices

I see asking prices quite high. Looking at older (around 40 yrs old) Taiwanese boats. Is it possible that they appreciated over last 5-8 years? I thought you always lose money on old boats.

    Power Washing ?

Thank you for all the answers - very informative. My main problem is green moss(?) which covers decks, bulwarks and even Sunbrella top and covers. In BC climate every spring cleaning with soap and brush is a nightmare and cleaning non skid decks is almost impossible.

    Power Washing ?

    Fuel Plumbing Configuration

Thank you for all the answers guys. You've answered all my questions and my doubts are gone. I will use my Racors one at the time, especially that they are connected parallel and not in line and my engine, although not Lehman anymore but a newish Pekins M-225, sips fuel at a low rate indeed...

    Fuel Plumbing Configuration

So, I run a single engine trawler. There are two tanks port and starboard sides and two primary Racors. I keep all valves opened, which means fuel comes from both tanks simultaneously, goes through both Racor and returns to both tanks. The tanks are both connected with each other and fuel...

    Any opinions on my engine?

Hello; I bought my boat repowered with Perkins Sabre M225Ti. This engine was installed new in 2011 by the previous owner. I bought the boat, 1982 40' Ocean Alexander in 2015 with 360 hrs on this engine. Now the hours are 840. I have no previous experience with marine diesels, but from my...

    Stuck at Dock-fuel filter problem?

I have a single engine (Perkins) and two Racor filters plus one on the engine which I am afraid to touch as yet. PO used 30 mic. in both Racors. Would it make sense, when replacing, to install one 30 and one 10 microns or maybe both 10 or 2x30 makes the most sense? I am a new owner and trying...

Why Is That In The Fuel Filler Pipe?

Thanks, I will check O-rings tomorrow, seems like a good suggestion.

Why Is That In The Fuel Filler Pipe?

I was taking fuel for the first time and right under the cap there was a crumbled paper towel soaked in diesel. Checked the port side and yes, same thing there. Why would the previous owner do that? It would not be good if this ball of tissue fell down the pipe to the tank, I think. Could...

Permanently Charged or Let Them Idle?

Yes, I would not expect that a permanent charge would cause any obvious damage. But after letting fully charged battery sit idle for say two weeks I find it keeps a full charge perfectly. So, both ways do not cause any obvious harm. But again, being perfectionist, I keep asking myself what...

    Hull Construction

What year is this boat Kevin? Mine is 1982. Did you find the answer to your question? I offer no opinion since I do not know either but my surveyor (three month ago) said in his survey that hull was a solid FRP.

Permanently Charged or Let Them Idle?

I am a new owner of older boat (2 months). I keep it at the dock with shore power provided. The house batteries - 6 golf cart batteries - were almost dead so I had brand new installed. Starting batteries are OK. There is Xantrex inverter/charger, generator and all usual equipment. After each...

    Tools Needed

I nominated them as such only when they came aboard. My son is full of enthusiasm but the pinnacle of his experience is service work on his car. He was very useful nevertheless. His friend could be called an electrician since he used to be a stereo installer. Vastly more knowledgeable then...

    Tools Needed

Finally, I am back homed since the last night so I have a chance to answer. First, I am impressed with the volume of answers - third page already! What an active bunch of guys you are, big thanks. On Thursday morning we left Horseshoe Bay on the ferry to Nanaimo. My wife was the driver and I...

    Tools Needed

OH no, I can't do that. Imagine 3 toolboxes plus all other necessary gear wheeled on Nanaimo ferry! I will take my chances, it s not an ocean crossing after all an I can always call for help and three strong men will come with their rescue truck, no? I am just taking few wrenches, screwdriver...

    Tools Needed

Tomorrow morning I am picking up my newly bought boat to ferry it home. Wish me luck please. It is 1982 Ocean Alexander with a 2011 Perkins diesel. I will take some basic tools with me and I am not sure; will I need metric, imperial or both? Thank you, John

    New Boat - Engine Question

Yacht World calls my boat Ocean Alexander, and The listing broker always said Ocean Alexander as I recall. He is vacationing now in Honduras (with my money).:) The picture you attached is OA Europa built from 1983 on. It was always twin engine. My boat is 1982 OA Europa designed by Ed...

    New Boat - Engine Question

Lets see if it works: There are some power and fuel consumption graphs and "prop curve" which I don't understand (page 3). Sunchaser - what are the best and the worst characteristics of these engines in your experience? Is your boat a planning hull boat?

    New Boat - Engine Question

The engine is not electronically controlled. No computers. The boat is Ocean Alexander -OA - not Marine Trader. The oil analysis was done by my surveyor-mechanic 2 days ago using a Surrey lab. The oil change was approx. 1,5 yrs ago by previous owner. He kept all the receipts, manuals...

    New Boat - Engine Question

75% load? How would I determine that? I am totally ignorant about marine diesels, but my seat of the pants tells me that to travel up to displacement speed I would need significantly less then 75% of max load. We will see how it goes. All I know that practice is frequently much different...

    New Boat - Engine Question

Thank you. The boat is a 1982 4o ft OA Europa. Now, this over/under propping business is somewhat unclear to me. The boat originally had single Lehman. It was repowered in 2011 with Sabre Perkins M225 TI and there is 364 hrs on it. The oil was changed once (how it should be) and sample was...

    New Boat - Engine Question

We were in protected bay so the sea was not built up, but the wind was stiff and the boat was struggling-lots of windage. I was happy and curious to see how it behaved. I have no experience at all with small power cruisers/boats/trawlers; this is going to be my first. All I know is all sizes...
