2 trawlers, same engine, different fuel consumption???

Go figure!.... One is 50% heavier than the other, revealing its probable full displacement nature. Also you do not mention speed...so.....I would say that with the data that you wrote, it is very hard to say something valid. We can only guess, I think!

    What have you done?

[Walt said: Well, I didn't realize that this thread was a treatise on everything that we did to our boats! Keeping to the dictates that the OP suggested ("can't believe others hadn't thought of it..") I only listed a new salon hatch. There were other improvements, however, that included:] Walt...

    What have you done?

Guys My small contribution was in the design department. My boat belongs to a line of hulls ranging from 28’ to 46’ (mine). So far, there are 1 x 42’, 1 x 33’ and 5 x 28’. When the first 42’ was building and due to the fact that the hull has a wide beam, I questioned the designer if he could...

    Powercat Trawlers

...Once somebody told me that the difference between a cat and a mono while sailing in high seas is that in the mono, the soup falls on your feet. In the Cat it falls on your head. I sailed both in various sea conditions and I never had soup falling either way The perception that a Cat can...

kha Shing 46' VS Gulfstar 44'

The Kha Shing is looking good. Balsa core is as good as any other core. Fear of the unknown? All core hulls are fiberglass overlay. The hull should be light, that's all. Get a previous survey to the hull. Is this boat presently in the water? As RT says; you need to walk the walk and talk the...

    Powercat Trawlers

Baker I can't say that all cats are alike but what you have just posted is the perception I have about a cruising cat sailing at 30 knts. People get enthusiastic and they loose their judgment capacity in face of the sea conditions. Yes cats and other boats can cruise at high speeds, but speed...

    Bus adaptable Air Conditioning

Thank you all for your opinions. Another option, probably more viable, is to connect a AC alternator to the gear or to the engine and produce 6KVA AC power at 1800RPM which is the cruising speed of the boat, and run the cooling units with it. My units are AC powered.

    One liners.

I saw a woman wearing a sweatshirt with 'Guess' on it. I said "Thyroid problem?" When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bike. Then I realised that The Lord doesn't work that way, so I stole one and asked him to forgive me. I've often wanted to drown my troubles, but I can't...

What's the deal with all that wood in the cabins

Allow me a question If you don't put wood inside of your boat, either full walls or a nice trim, how can you possibly call it home? Weird! Can you name a more convenient, safe, accurate, long lasting material for boat interiors?

    fuel usage v wave height

Rick That was good joke. The mention of the second engine is that he has 2 engines in his boat and, when he sails with only one, he is in jeopardy. You know exactely what I mean. That's why I only have one on my boat.
