    Lead for Ballast

Gentlemen Thank you all for your comments. I have 135 ingots with 45 lbs each. 100 of them will be permanently fit and properly stacked side-by-side in the center of the boat exactly on top of the forward portion of the keel. The leftovers of my epoxy resin will be poured on top. The other 35...

Hendo's Randall 35 Cray Boat complete rebuild, Perth, Western Australia

Nice job Hendo. You didn't forget to never sand the first layer of epoxy resin, did you?. That one must stay un-scratched. Where I come from we cannot get an anchor like that. Nice and well done! Portuguese

Naming Your Boat is Serious Stuff!

...Another tradition is that preferably the boat's name should start with the same letter of the owner's surname, it is just superstition in Portugal/Spain. Portuguese

Boat Decals - Does it last?

Gents I am still from the old school of using a brush and write the boat name with classic calligraphy. Yet I do not have that talent and friends tell me that plastic vinyl decal letters work fine and last forever (?????) Forever? How long? Do you have numbers? Thank you Portuguese

    Mileage vs Consumption

....Sooooo, instead of 1.34 x Square root of LWL = full displacement Hull Speed. I have chosen to cruise at 1.1 x Square Root of 40.2 which is my LWL (6.97 almost 7 knots correct?)

    Mileage vs Consumption

That’s exactly my point. Measuring distance per fuel burnt is the most logical way to define efficiency. I agree. To move that boat at 7kts will take 63HP according to the BoatDiesel calculator which is as good as any. You will need to find the prop curve for the exact Deutz engine to get the...

    Mileage vs Consumption

Thank you all guys Ted, thank you for your comments in particular. I didn't mean to start a major discussion about the subject. It is obvious that we are far from a conceptual consensus about the issue. I have no doubts whatsoever that fuel efficiency for a given vessel has to be translated...

    Mileage vs Consumption

My miles reflect nautical miles. Nautical miles/hour are Knots. Basicaly what you burn in 0n2 hour divided by what you run in the same period. It's about that. There's a diference between road miles and nautical miles.

    Mileage vs Consumption

Merry Christmas Sailors: Many ideas and opinions have been written in this forum about consumption, cruising speed, engine RPM, etc. I am yet to find out what is economical and what is not for a specific boat size and weight. When I project the behavior of my boat, which is one of a kind because...

    Cummins 555

Which one is it? Turbo or NA?...The NA is the perfect engines for a Trawler. Last time I saw a NA one, it was in a shrimpboat an it had over 9000 hours in it. It is a heavy, slow and cold engine. The comment above about taking time to warm up is a true fact about this work horse. Go for it. I...

Not a good way to start the day....

...Yeahp, we spend our lives working hard to do many things, amongst them to have something that we really like. And then, one day, we come to a crossroad like this. Life is not always fair! My simpathy and best wishes for the owner of the boat!

    Are we crazy?

OLIVER NO, You are not crazy. You're just normal! I'd rather spend a few bucks more with fuel than being unable to sleep. If you come to Northeast Brazil you'll know why I do agree with Oliver. Tropical heat mixed up with humidity, is hard to deal with for long periods of time.
