    Helmsman 38 Cdn Price

Also be aware (at least according to another TF ,member who just ordered one) that delivery is expected to be just short of 2 years away (Summer of 2023). Apparently for the sellers and builder, this is a good problem to have :)

Throwing a wake and those buzzing bass boats

tparrent, I am no legal expert, and certainly not as it pertains to US law. However, it sounds to me that you are in the top 20% of all boaters when it comes to boat operation and concern for others (courtesy). You cannot anticipate when others may come along, you can only react to what you...

    UPDATE - Lemon-aid R 27 Ranger Tug

Dan, "I am not saying that means anything conclusive, or that these are "bad boats", only that it gives "food for thought" and further investigation would be warranted for anyone considering one of these boats." As stated earlier in this thread, I feel the above statement holds true. These...

New gent looking at trawlers to retire in....

Yes, mine sold in 5 days with no broker and only listed on 3 forums like TF. Hot market for sellers, no so great for buyers. Rangers are a different animal than the American and Nordic Tugs. Ranger owners mostly plane their boats and cruise above 14 knots or so, while the AT and NT owners...

Some kind of sealant on sanitary hoses

Frank, I had success using a small amount of sealant on the sanitary hose connections on my boat. I used a product called Rector Seal #5 (yellow colour). It will help the hose slip on, and when it dries, will help seal against any "small" leaks (in other words makes a better seal). The hose will...

    Remodeling the Covid Forum

Rich, I agree with most of your posts (in general), but to this I say, then don't look there  Just because you don't like chocolate ice cream doesn't mean it should be banned. Just don't eat it. Interesting diversity of opinions. :thumb:

    UPDATE - Lemon-aid R 27 Ranger Tug

Toocoys, That could be, but maybe not?? If this damage was only caused by the boat being "properly" (assumption there) blocked, or if not built to high enough structural strength, then I understand his concerns. Admittedly there is alot more to this and info we don't have. Maybe after the...

    UPDATE - Lemon-aid R 27 Ranger Tug

I am sorry that you have had to go through all of this. On the surface, this info does not look good for the manufacturer. I have seen other owners who have been very 'unhappy" with Cutwater (same manufacturer I think but different reasons) as well. I am not saying that means anything...

    Remodeling the Covid Forum

To give a "more rounded" (other side of the issue) view/opinion, I am saddened that it ended up this way. While I do agree that the Covid area had issues and some restraint from members and control from the mods was necessary, there was some good information and discussions shared there. There...

    Question(s) for older boaters...

Many economists are predicting very large market downturns. Markets are at all time highs and have shown what some are calling "strange" behaviour (in that they have climbed even higher (after years of a bullish market) in the face of businesses closing, high unemployment, shutdowns, etc.) At...

New gent looking at trawlers to retire in....

Spinner (Sue) on this forum single hands her Nordic Tug 42 all the time. I agree with Dan. Have a look at both American and Nordic Tugs. They cruise at 6-8 knots (depending on size) very economically fuel wise, and are capable of up to 17 knots wide open (for short periods - 14 knots more...

    Thoughts on my ground tackle?

Just take out a very good insurance policy on your wife  A few possible ideas. One, you and your wife trade "roles" when retrieving the anchor. :thumb:Develop hand signals or use headsets to ensure good communication between the two of you. If she doesn't know how to run the boat yet, she...

    New Rules

I personally think the new rules are just a bit toooooo stringent. Murray (in a recent thread) linked information that could be very useful to anyone boating in Florida (whether resident of transient) about rising cases. This information could be considered "forewarned is forearmed", yet the...

    Chain Locker Jamming

Exactly. This happened from time to time on both my former sailboat and my Nordic. The fix, I used was to ensure that the "pile' was pushed over every so often to avoid the large pile falling over and creating the jam the next time you tried to deploy the anchor. It was less of an issue with the...

    Good bye for awhile

Hippo, Congrats on the Nordie!!! I hope all goes well with surveys, and all of the 'other' things that go into buying a new to you boat. We fully understand the need to "take a bit of break" from all of us on TF, but don't stay away too long, as you will be missed!!!! Good luck, keep us...

    IR Temp Monitoring

There is a lot of good info under Tony"s Tips at sbmar.com. FYI it is Cummins leaning, but much does apply to other brands/models. See the following for info on places to track IR temps: https://www.sbmar.com/articles/ir-gun-temperature-check/

    Stupid anchoring questions ;)

I also anchor in BC coastal waters. I do not consider 3to1 to be an adequate scope in most cases. In calm conditions in a protected anchorage with good holding, 4 to 1 is fine. Usually I use a scope of 5 to 1 but will "settle" for a bit less. If anchoring in deeper water, say over 60 feet, then...

    Survey required for insurance

The surveyor was a US based surveyor (from what I found about him was that he had been surveying for quite a while with a good reputation) as the transaction took place in La Connor, Wash. and I imported the boat to Canada. The insurance company and the surveyor did not appear to even be familar...

    Switch positions while anchored.

Dan, Sounds like a good set up. Agree there should be some "always on" breakers, bilge pumps come to mind.

    Anchor alarm question

My Vesper AIS 8000 had a great anchor watch and alarm function. They also have the ability to use a remote alarm. You could locate that in the master. I am a light sleeper, sometimes a curse, but for this issue, it is a blessing.

    Stupid anchoring questions ;)

Magna, It can get a bit complicated. First off, it can be difficult to determine where someone else's anchor is. If a calm day, and the other boat anchored in a direction taking into account a prevailing wind the day before, their anchor could actually be behind them!!!! So just merrily dropping...

    Switch positions while anchored.

No issue with me Dan :) big smile. Without an explanation, especially for someone new, it is just a statement of how one person does things. With explanation, possibly they get an understanding of why, possible pros and cons, and can maybe make a better determination of what they want to do. The...

    Dripless shaft log, dripping

RickyD, posted on the "other' thread: If your shaft seal looks like the ones on this site PYI Inc. | PSS Shaft Seal, it is a PSS seal. The bellows is a maintenance item and should be replaced every 6 years if the regular seal, or every 10 years if it is the new improved version. This is...
