    Electric Motor Efficiency Cost

Thanks. You make a good point that there is a replacement cost for the batteries that also needs to be considered. As for alternative (cleaner) diesel, I am familiar with "biodiesel" as a concept. But looking at airplane fuel is new to me. I think I will need to learn more about that. Thank...

I think that gets at the heart of my question, yes. Thank you for confirming that.

    Electric Motor Efficiency Cost

Thank you. That is new information to me, I was operating under the assumption that alternators are pretty much a constant load on the system. If these electric drives do offer variable resistance with a very low overhead, that would be interesting indeed.

    Electric Motor Efficiency Cost

In an ideal situation, absolutely. But the they are not direct substitutes. Switching to electric is not an option if you want/need to cruise over 5-ish knots, for example. To me, that means there may be quite a bit of engine time that a typical cruiser would *want* to be on diesel to take...

    Electric Motor Efficiency Cost

I just had a chance to see a Greenline 39 at the Seattle Boat show and found it fascinating. There is a lot to like about it and I was surprised to see how many Greenline boats have been built across the whole product line. If I understand correctly, when running on diesel, the diesel engine...

Thanks for all of the advice. Chartering is definitely on our our radar at this point. I found several places in the region with lots of good options. A charter with additional instruction sounds like a really good idea to me!

Thanks everyone, I did sign up for Trawler Fest and am set to go on that. My first boating class starts next week. I got the Waggoner's Cruising Guide and have been losing sleep reading that. I appreciate all of the advice and friendly welcomes. Stripper, nice to see that you are enjoying your...

    Puget Sound Boating

I am open to looking into Yacht Clubs, but that is new territory for me. I hadn't really considered that before. I'll have to look around online and see what I can see. That seems like an entire adventure unto itself, so I'll have to start thinking more about that.

I've been reading through the Waggoner's Cruising Guide and I must say thanks to all who suggested it! I am learning quite a bit from it and it's keeping me up when I should be sleeping the past couple of nights.

Thanks for the tip. I have been browsing my options on that front. I found a Helmsman 38E on charter and that is something that interests me. I also discovered that the Waggoner's Cruising Guide had some information on several charters. I like that I can charter, but also that there are group...

Just to follow-up, I purchased the "Waggoner's Cruising Guide" today. Looking forward to reading it. Thanks for the tip. I also signed up for Trawlerfest in Seattle. Tickets and hotel booked. I'm pretty excited about that.

Downloading movies to watch on board

The Firestick is designed to _stream_ movies to any TV with an HDMI connection. It is not intended to enable you to download videos so you can watch them offline, which I think is what you are looking for. The Firestick has _both_ an HDMI and a USB connector. The HDMI connector feeds video to...

I just finished reading all of your blog. Thanks for the link, it was a great read. I especially liked your renaming ceremony and your itemized "list of wants." If you don't mind me asking, now that you have had the boat for a year, has your list of wants changed in any way? Have you found your...

Thanks for all the advice. Wifey B, thanks for the encouragement. I've been poking around Yacht World for a few years, but definitely with an eye towards that future dream boat. The wife and I are just starting to talk about something we could use sooner. As you pointed at that may look a lot...

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I am familiar with Trawler Fest and the Seattle Boats Afloat show from years past, though I have not attended in some time. I will see if I can sign up this year and get some classes. It seems to me it was in Anacortes when I went before, but appears to be...

Thank you. I appreciate all of the help. I will look into Navionics and Aqua Maps. Those look like great resources. I suspected that having a boat further north (such as Anacortes) might offer some better options, as Russell suggested. Actually, La Conner is one of our favorite weekend...

    Puget Sound Boating

I live near Everett in WA, but I have never boated in this area. I don't have much boating experience and I do not yet own a boat. In thinking about what kind of boat we might want, I'm hoping some experienced people in this area can offer some advice. If we had a trawler in a slip in Everett...
