Ok, I’m convinced to putt along at Hull speed, but

I have a Grand Banks 42, cat 3208’s, 375 hp. Last year I started using one engine for cruising at hull speed, 8 knts. I burn 4 gallons an hour. With both engines at 8 knts I burn 7 gal/hr. I do rotate the engines to get good lubrication. My owners manual says that its ok to do this. Saving...

    Seakeeper? Other things?

We have a sea keeper on our Grand Banks 42 and we love it. It works so well and you can use it at anchorage unlike stabilizer fins. Having nothing protruding from the hull like the Naiad stabilizers is a huge plus. There was a Kadey-Krogen that hit a rock and knocked a fin off and sunk.

Installing cleats or bollards on Grand Banks

I have a 1996 GB’s 42 Classic and I would like to install a set of cleats or bollards near the transom. There is only one cleat for the two hawse pipes, each side, on the Grand Banks 42. When adding more lines for storms, cold fronts, etc, that one cleat gets kinda crowded. Has anyone added...

    Fuel

I Have a Gb’s 42 with cat 3208’s 375hp and I am definitely changing the way I cruise this season. I have been experimenting with cruising on one engine at around 7.5 kts. At that speed its about 1400rpm and a fuel burn around 3.5 gal/hr. With both engines at that rpm I can get 8.5kts, but now...

Any One Else Have This "Problem"? Trawler Owner

Had to laugh at your comment. We were at the mega dock in Charleston on our Grand Banks 42 surrounded by mega yachts, we felt like we were in a dinghy. Hahahah.

    travel to the carribean

I have a GB’s 42 and I plan to just stay in the Bahamas, there is so much more to do, more secluded anchorages, better beaches, for myself its just better cruising and easier. But, if you want to head south to the Caribbean your GB’s 36 should have no problem doing that. Don’t be on a schedule...

Leaking fresh water tank Grand Banks 46 classic

I have a leaking water tank on a 1996 GB 42. Thinking of using JB weld water on it.

    prop speed coating

Just had prop speed applied to my running gear on a Grand Banks 42. I noticed an improvement in performance right away. At 1400 rpm the boat will now do 9 knts, before it took 1600 rpms.

    IPAD & Navionics?

I bought a Grand Banks 42 in N.C. in May and we brought her back to the Gulf Coast using Aqua Maps. I had Navionics also but I preferred Aqua Maps. Both worked great on our ipads. You can download all the maps you need for your trip to your ipad and it will work fine without any cell or wifi...

Throwing a wake and those buzzing bass boats

I have a Grand Banks 42 and when over 10kts I put out a tidal wave. I know exactly what you are talking about. In my opinion I think you did your do diligence in slowing down for the boats to pass and if they are going so fast as to catch up with your previous big wake then that’s on them. If...

Anchoring a Grand Banks Europe 52

Sarca Excel I just bought a Grand Banks 42, 1996. Have had it for a month now. It has a 44# CQR with 200 ft of G43 chain. I did a lot of research on anchors. I just ordered the Sarca Excel, the galvanized 65lb model. Sarca anchors are made in Australia. The only dealer in North America is...

Anchoring a Grand Banks Europe 52

I just bought a grand Banks 42,1996 a month ago. Has a 44# CQR with 200 ft of chain. Replacing it with the Sarca Excel, galvanized 06 model. Your boat would take the 08 model anchor, here’s the link. https://www.groundtackle.com/online-store/Sarca-Excel-Galvanized-Steel-Anchor-p67306691 The...

Grand Banks 39/42 or "alike" for voyaging / passagemaking?

I would look at the Elling brand of boats, made in Europe and seaworthy and for where you want to cruise, Netherlands and Germany, it can easily be used in the canals. Going in the North Sea to get to Norway would be much safer in a full displacement boat. I think you will have a hard time...

    Concerned about purchasing older boat

The return on investment is the satisfaction of being the Captain, feeling the sun and salt spray over the bow, watching the sunset to see the green flash, early morning with a cup of coffee on the flybridge, watching the dolphin under the bow, yelling fish on crossing the tongue of the ocean...
