Wanted: Looking for a Monk trawler

Yes but that is not the boat I saw or have in mind. It may have been an Ocean Alexander but an older model.

Wanted: Looking for a Monk trawler

Thanks. It is very possible that this was a one-off. Most of the Monks in that size draft about 4' and this one was only 3', single engine.

Wanted: Looking for a Monk trawler

I don't know where to post this, moderators, feel free to move it. In October or November 2016, I was at the Loggerhead marina in St Pete FL and there was a very nice boat there: a Monk trawler, about 40' sedan type (no aft cabin). I met the owner/skipper and we talked about boats, single...

    Let’s get down to business

Email boatbuildercentral.com and they will tell you. They are in the same area and have 25 years experience with repairs. Free advice too. On one of their tech. support web page, at bateau2.com, there is a table about curing temp. for epoxy.

    Good book!

During my firsts transatlantic crossings in the early 80's, I did not have any of those. One of my boats had no electricity, nav. lights were kerosene but I had two $ 10.00 quartz clocks for longitude, checked with the short wave radio (batteries). Position was calculated with sextant and tables...

    Mini loop

2 weeks minimum, 3 weeks to enjoy. You don't want to get just in and out of an anchorage or marina every day and at trawler speed, your itinerary takes a week of sailing. Now, why go to the East coast? Once you get in Stuart, you have a couple of miles of ICW then one or two days in what we...

    Outboard tiller extension

I have the same outboard and use a tiller extension bought from Amazon, the Helmsmate. I also added a Doelfin and the little boat runs great with that setup.

Request to tour a Prairie 29

Thanks for the beer and feel free to email if you have any questions. We discussed engines like the Perkins 4108 and 4236 but I forgot the 4154 which is very common in Prairies. And don't forget Cadillac, he has a nice rebuilt Prairie 29.

    Documentation Renewal Beware

I renewed through the USCG web site, $ 26.00 and got the paper copy within 4 days. There is no reason to use those"services".

    New refrigerator, Vitrifrigo?

I have a Vitrifrigo 3 years old and it works very well: efficient, quiet and does not drain my batteries. Their tech. support is not great: I lost the users manual and from the part number on the invoice, they can't identify the model, weird.

    Jupiter Inlet Boat Sinking

That Stapelton bow does not have any reserve buoyancy, not enough volume. By the time that wide flare touches the water, it is already too late. The bow volume may have been a factor too.

    Jupiter Inlet Boat Sinking

Yes, that's a theory around here: some people think that the boat was taking water. It would explain the sudden bow down move, surface effect, water sloshing in the bilges.

Request to tour a Prairie 29

Sortie gave us a tour of his Prairie 29 before we bought ours. He is very knowledgeable and his boat is in great shape. We were ready to buy his boat if it was for sale. We found another one on the West coast and brought her here, in Vero Beach, one hour south from Sortie. You are welcome to...

    Florida keys.

Check this web site: Cruisers' Net | Cruisers Helping Cruisers Go to the SE section and search. I saw lots of reports on the Keys: marinas, USCG reports, channels moved etc.

    Getting rid of Diesel Smell

A little sniff of diesel ins't bad. Since 50 years , I associate it with the pleasure of boating. Our cleaning lady uses Fabuloso and half a cup of it the bilges does a good job. I often spill a bit when changing filters.

    Tips on cored hulls

If it is dry and well bonded now, it should not delaminate and you should be safe. Have a surveyor check for moisture content if you have any doubts . Problems if any come from poor bonding between skins and core or from improper accessories installation. As the others have said, it is very...

    Prairie 36 Improvements

How about the same type of davits but removable? I have three rod holders on the transom cap. The tubes can bury about 12" deep in them, that should be enough to take up to 150 lbs.

St Lucie inlet or Ft Pierce?

One more reason: there is much to see and to do in the USA. I am born in Belgium and came to live in the US quite late in life but I was surprised by the variety of landscapes, people, climates and even cultural differences in the US. After 30 years as a citizen, I am still impressed by what...

For Sale: Sold-Nearly new Dingy and outboard

How was the dinghy stored on the boat? Weaver brackets on swim platform? Do you have those brackets or other system? I own a Prairie 29 and am very very close (Vero Beach).

    Softener in holding tank?

Some serious testing and research has been done about this. Just watch the movie "Rat Race" to see what happens when you pour detergent in a black water tank.

1982 Marine Trader Europe drive shaft

In most cases, there is shaft tube. It's a fiberglass tube that goes from the cutlass bearing to the packing gland, sticks out a little bit each side. When building the boat, that tube is aligned then heavily fiberglassed around at least at each end. With a single engine, sometimes, glass and...

St Lucie inlet or Ft Pierce?

I live in that area and don't like to go through St Lucie inlet. It moves all the time and the channel is not easy to see when the sea builds up. Once inside, you must slalom through more shoals: I don't like it. Ft Pierce or West Palm (Lake Worth) are very easy.

    Securing dinghy to swim step

Does anybody uses the "sling net" system? Home of the Dinghy Sling Davit System I like the idea of no hardware and a somewhat elastic system.
