New USCG security zones in PB.

Sailing is not prohibited through that zone. All what they ask is that you maintain a steady course and speed. I lived close to there and it is really not a big deal.

Putting Ballast into a hollow keel

About the same situation here: my last "big" boat was a 41' sailboat and I just bought a Prairie 29. I knew what to expect: trawlers will never be as stable as a sailboat and the Prairie 29 is a small boat. Small waterplane: look at how the hull flares open a few inches above the waterline. That...

Free transient dockage in Indiantown Florida

For Prairie 29's :) Last week, I was sailing with my new (to me) Prairie 29 from Tarpon Springs to Vero Beach when Cadillac, a Prairie 29 owner emailed me to offer dockage at his place along the Okeechobee Waterway. We did stopped there and it was fun. Cadillac has a super nice Prairie 29 that...

    Locked up trawler

Glad that it was solved. I am staying at a Loggerhead Marina right now (Stuart), was at the one in St Petersburg 10 days ago. The marinas are very nice, crew is welcoming and the transient prices are good. If Ii did not have my own dock, I would rent a spot with them. I wish they had a system by...

The original Prairie 29 for sale!

I wonder if she is really for sale. I emailed, no reply. Anyway, I bought hull#4 three weeks ago. Will sail her from Florida West Coast to the East coast within a few weeks.

    Anyone at IBEX in Tampa

I was there but after one day, left to get the house and boat ready for Matthew. BTW, it's not a boat show, it's all about boat building materials, tools and methods, not open to the public but great meeting place.

    New Long Thin, Hyper-Efficient Trawler

Yes, certainly. I like the original design but many would want to use that large mid cockpit for a cabin.

    Garage CNC Cutting Table revolution.

I follow your building at bateau2.com. I wanted a TW28 but the best offer I had to build one was 18 months and the cost was twice what I paid for the Prairie 29. At 70, time to enjoy cruising is getting tight. Yes, I may come up to Canada. As you know, I have family there and always wanted to...

    New Long Thin, Hyper-Efficient Trawler

All correct and for a designer, the marketing problem is major. The concept is intelligent, the boat logical but I know from experience that when a couple looks at a boat, the husband will ask for more speed and the wife for more room. No preliminary design at this point, just an idea that has...

    Garage CNC Cutting Table revolution.

No, I didn't. We sold hundreds of plans and I have seen more than 10 completed boats but wasn't aware that one of them was on this forum. I will look him up with the search tool. I would love to have TW28 but building cost more than to buy used. On the other hand, if you build, you"ll have a...

    New Long Thin, Hyper-Efficient Trawler

Nigel Irens, S, Dashew etc. produce nice designs but it is possible to design smaller, efficient LDL boats. See this one for example: SeaPiper 35 - Modern Compact Trawler - SeaPiper (not my design) I have a 30 footer on the drafting table, should come out next year.

    Garage CNC Cutting Table revolution.

I just sold my business which was based exactly on what you describe. (and I bought a small trawler with a small part of the proceeds :) ) See bateau.com I developed panels for 25 years. Even with the best software, it takes some experience. My CNC machine did cost about 20 times what you...

Wanted: Small trawler wanted, FL or close.

JoeBad, I found the boat I wanted. I am not looking for a trawler anymore.

Wanted: Small trawler wanted, FL or close.

I am not the owner of the Swift 34. That was somebody else proposing his boat for sale.

Wanted: Small trawler wanted, FL or close.

Got one, a Prairie 29. I will post later, once all the paperwork is done. Thanks for all who messaged to propose a boat.

Wanted: Small trawler wanted, FL or close.

Thank you but I should refine my request. I am looking for a small trawler. By small, I mean 30' max. Also, budget is 50K max. Most Prairie 29's go for 30K or less. 34 or 36 is too big, sorry.

Wanted: Small trawler wanted, FL or close.

Thanks but I prefer the trawler style.

Wanted: Small trawler wanted, FL or close.

Thank you. Very nice but much larger than what I have in mind. I am downsizing, coming from a 41 footer that I never took out because it was too much boat.

Wanted: Small trawler wanted, FL or close.

I am looking for a small trawler with max. 3' 6" draft, single diesel. The Prairie 29 is a good example but I will look at others. Must be in good condition, no project please. I am cash buyer and serious. Some preferences: generator and AC, autopilot. Location: Florida east cost (Vero Beach)...
