The city marina has just reopened after putting new docks in. Currently only 2 boats in although it was busy a week or so ago. Would love to meet up with...

    rear view camera

I have two pyle cameras. One on the engine room and the other off the stern. Both work well and give great definition. I can easily see someone coming up behind if I'm in the wheelhouse. The stern camera certainly helps when entering a channel or restricted space. Amazing how often small boats...

Ford Lehmann 6 cilinder Engine Problems

The oil is separate in the injection pump and changed every 50 hrs. Are you sure you have all clean battery contacts etc? Can you turn it over when the injectors are out> that should be reasonably easy. Put a discharge battery on the battery terminals before trying to start and make sure you...

    Fuel sight gauge issue

Interesting use of the Tygon tube. I have 2 tanks down aft under the cockpit 500GPH. Sounds the perfect visual device. Many years ago I found some 3/8" red floating balls I dropped one in each tube in a previous boat too enable easier seeing of the depth of fuel. For the life of me I cannot...

Offer required to SEE the boat?

Sounds a real con to me. Reputable brokers would never act like that. Is he a licensed broker or a wannabe broker writing his own rules?

    AGM batteries if discharged?

One thing about agm's any reputable battery place can get a fully discharged battery back. The trick is not to use a modern charger, if you connect and trickle charge nothing will happen. What you need to do is to overcome the discharged resistance. You need to put a clamp ammeter on the cable ...

    Engine Room Temperatures

Attached are links to interesting articles and Caterpillars recommendations on proper engine room ventalation. As I mentioned before I've done this twice, and i'd rather walk into a engine room at (110-120F) 25-30f above the outside ambient than over a 140F engine room when things go wrong on a...

    AQntifouling Addatives

Ironically we built some glass bottom boats in Bermuda and our solution to keeping the glass clean wash to slather a mixture of Vaseline and hot pepper dust. It worked well and once in sea water the Vaseline / mixture became transparent.

    Engine Room Temperatures

I did fit fans intake & exhaust to my last boat (Cheoy Lee 50) after seeing 130 F temps and above. I bought 550cfm Spaal exhaust fans from the surplus center. and mounted them aft in the engine room above the risers. The intakes @500cfm were ducted to blast the cooler ambient air from outside...

    Live aboard Hurricane planning

I rode out one hurricane in Bermuda. I was on a mooring in a what I thought was a protected bay. My C&L trawler was 65ft and the motion so bad we sat on the floor in the saloon. I kept the engines warmed up. As the eye went through we dropped the mooring and tied up in the lee on the commercial...

    Fuel Vacuum Gauge

Like that idea Rich!!. It's on my "to do list" As you may have noticed in my previuos post I've just fitted vacuum gauges on mains and Gens. But the addition of vac's on the main bridge I would see as absolute positive step.

    Where to Register

I note that you are based in Europe , what's your nationality? That's the first problem. If the U.K. Its Small ships register and maintain a address with a friend. Cheap cheerful. If you need a loan or mortgage you need to go the survey 2k and the red flag ensign 3K route. The boat can be...
