    Overheating 101

Yep just need a flow totalizer they come from garden hose size to 3" not expensiveput it after the pump. Run the engine for 10 mins at t/over then cruising rpm. Then check under load. It jus confirms flow better than looking over the stern and estimating. Look up the supposed pump output at the...

    Overheating 101

Just a curiuous thought. its something I've come uppon a few times of 40 years working in a boatyard. I've seen the thru hulls scoop type installed back wards causing a vacuum at high speeds and starving the pump. I'd check the water flow at higher speed you could place plastic in the line...

    AC 8kw Alternator......on a Gardner 6L3B

How much horsepower does an alternator pull ? You can mathematically determine the horsepower cost at any given load. (Remember, alternators respond to load. If there is no load present the alternator is basically freewheeling.) Amps x Volts = Watts Watts / 745.7 (one HP) = Electrical HP...

Exhaust Wrap/Tape for Dry Riser sections

Lageed with the lava which cut down the heat well, But gained lots more insulation with the sheet stuff which really killed the heat and taped the joints with aluminum tape. It mad a nice finish. When I got the boat in 2012 the P.O. had stripped a lot of the boat , before he died very little was...

Been on a project to lower my engine room from the 130-140f to now 110F. Engines run better now ingesting ambient...

What size water tank with water maker?

I'd leave as is. You'll be suprised how mush water you use gunkholing etc. The last thing you want to do is go looking for water every few days 40 galls of water goes nowhere. Having said that I sailed across the atlantic on less than that. Finding clean harbours etc to run watermakers is...

Insulate or not to insulate; that is the question.

I'd insulate, cost so ittle. I've used a aircon product "Duct board" its a foil covered f/g;ass insulatioon board, just cut it with a razor knife. Great for sound as well , used it on my engine rooms over the years. You can just tape the seam after. Master Flow 48 in. x 120 in. Duct Board -...

Mold -- Is it as bad as they say?

Interesting discussion, I don't have a mould problem down in the caribbean. The boats wide open all day and the aircons on at night. One thing we found useful in my other prior retirement life were air scrubbers that ectronical chage the air etc. They pick up the mould and odors etc and deposit...

    Help w/ battery challenge

Do you have an extra 2" of height? You coudld get 4x t105's (6vdc) in there with room to spare. I would get the specs of a range of the various group batteries and try for 4 x 12v batteries. You may get a better fit with a change of thought process. You woud certsainly get them in it's just the...
