Boat for general cruising and great loop

Boat for the Loop? As for stability - here we get waked while rafted to a Parker -

    Anchor chain

Kellets are fun to play with, until someone is dragging down on you in 50 mph winds/rain with green water splashing over the bow. The extra time to un-kellet might make a difference?

    Humor

I carry a big stick behind my seat because if I go too slow the coeds will jump off the curb into my car.

    Anchor chain

Measure the weight of 50 feet of chain. Add that weight to the anchor and eliminate all the chain. Chain aids in setting, but ultimately doesn't do jack for holding. If you're not in coral or (sharp) rocks or staying at anchor for days at a time, there's a high overhead for chain. Show me how...

do dogs fall off boats often?

Here's where us pseudo trawler (houseboat) folks have the advantage. Our dog comes and goes at will. He even swims ashore on his own to go potty.

    SOS light versus flares

My solution is a home-made battery dispenser with the electronic flare nearby.

    Dog on a boat overnight

It ain't about the 'product' - it's about who can hold out longer.

    Dog on a boat overnight

You taught your dog not to poop in the house. Now you want to teach him to poop in the house = on the boat. Your dog knows the rules. I used to row my dog ashore every 12 hours. This got old. We bought a green doormat and put it on the aft deck. I rubbed a little of his poop on it and...

Shower head on wall or hand held

We have only 6 gallons of hot water with the wall mounted hand held unit. We usually do Navy showers with the spray head at the wall but prefer the foot operated shut off to fumbling for the shut off button on the head...

    Why a Trawler

https://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2012/04/sailboat-or-trawler.html?m=1 The folks here are familiar with this blog entry, but it does show some of the possible inland cruises if you're not locked into saltwatwer. https://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2019/12/rubber-band-trawler If you really get...

Most frequently used or useful tool aboard

I have to add another one: Butyl tape. If you have a pesky wire hanging down in a tricky location - use a dab of tape to stick it up out of the way. Need to keep a screw on the screwdriver to get it into the hole - use a dab of tape on the tip of the screwdriver. It's great for...

If you had to do it all over again...

We lived aboard a 27' sailboat (we bought new and commissioned ourselves) for 3 years back in the 70's. At 75 y/o now, I can say those were the most memorable years of my life. So for me, the 'when' is way more important than the 'what'. We're pretty much bottom feeders here, so the 'how' was...

    Honda Generator Recall: Saltwater Issues

    What are my options?

I owned a 35' Senator that was pretty much what you're looking for. It turned out to be a rubber band trawler. I didn't keep it long. I later got into something as accommodating but with much more flexibility and much less responsibility/upkeep. I had a buddy who was looking at 100k trawlers...

Twin diesels vs. single on a Mainship

I am blown away by the overwhelming need to require a 'spare' engine in a diesel powered boat. Do they really fail that often that this should be a valid concern? I would never have considered this an argument for twins.

Cost effective ways to heat a shop

I only heat when I'm actually in the shop (20x30). I have mine on a 1 hour timer so if I forget to turn it off it goes off by itself. When using paint or epoxy, I can easily bypass the timer for overnight curing.

    Paint vs gelcoat.

PAINT - because I'd rather spend my time and money out on the water than making my boat shiny.

    Humor

I met my X at the bar last night. After a few drinks I went over and said, "How about it? One more time for old time sake?" She said, "Over my dead body!" I said "OK, let's not change a thing."

    Net worth....Boat Budget

Do you guys expect to have more money in your pocket when you come out of a movie or restaurant? How about after you buy a good bottle of scotch? Where is the passion for boating? You want a boat with no risk. To me, a risk is an opportunity to learn something, so basically you want a boat...
