    Portable generator

Yes, you can run a generator in an enclosure on deck. No, it doesn't have to be loud. https://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2012/10/3000i.html If I'm annoyed by someone running a generator near me - hmmmm, I just move. That's the nice thing about anchoring.

    Tool bag or Tool Box

Very few things to worry about on my boat. I just buy one of these every few years and donate the old one to Goodwill. https://www.harborfreight.com/105-piece-tool-kit-4030.html And I love these. https://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2014/04/wire-clamp-maker.html

    Letting Go

Oh, the complications of success and old age. My wife and I moved aboard when I was 25, on a 27' sailboat without running water or refrigeration. We spent hurricane seasons on the hook working, the rest of the year cruising. Now, at 75 y/o, the memory of those years are my favorite of all time.

    Portable generator

I like the remote start/stop generators. I have a Honda 3000i and a Champion 3100 inverter. I run the 3000i on my boat. https://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2012/10/3000i.html I like the CO detectors that have a readout...

    Battery question

To be conventional and proper you need a golf cart bank with twice your required capacity. Then you'll need to monitor your usage with an amp counting meter to keep from depleting your bank too far . You'll also need a high tech multi-stage battery charger. US bottom feeders have a different...

    Trawler Purchase Advice

Is your fun in refurbishing or boating? Do you consider the boat an inestment? Are you worried about resale? When I purchased my trawler the prime objective was cruising. I didn't want to buy a boat I couldn't use. The money I might lose on resale was a small price to pay for the joy that...

    Pump Out Rant

With an RV macerator that screws into the deck pump out, you can empty your holding tank thru a garden hose. https://www.amazon.com/Jabsco-Macerator-Priming-Protection-Evacuation/dp/B01MXOSR5N Here's how we do it with the RV. https://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2017/03/wolf-pup-sewage.html

    On your boat...

We have a bunch of hoity-toity folks here, don't we? I posed that same question in the Boat/US classifieds many years back. A fellow wrote back saying my wife, daughter and I were welcome to spend the weekend on his trawler with him and his GF. There was none of the conditions or any other BS...

Oven or bread maker for fresh bread on board?

For the 3 years we lived aboard the sailboat from New England to the Caribbean - we ran the motor for 80% of the miles we covered. Doesn't that qualify us as a trawler?

Picking a boat for overnights and long distance cruising (ICW, Great Loop)

I'm 75. Here's my take: Diesels are not cheaper to maintain. Diesel stinks forever. Anyone can fix a gasser. My gasser boat gets 3 mpg at 7mph - but it can do almost 30 mph. You'd need to keep a boat 40 years to take advantage of the extra cost of a diesel...at 74 y/o I'm guessing that ain't...

Why are wire nuts disliked in boats.

Most of us don't have a gauge to test crimps...at least I don't. And I did buy one of those expensive ratchet crimpers, but I wasn't always happy with the crimp. I migrated to the dimple crimp and have never been disappointed. Ratchet left, dimple right - the dimple unquestionably holds better.

Why are wire nuts disliked in boats.

Others like to regurgitate rules or customary procedures. I like to share actual experiences. I used wire nuts on my boat trailer whenever a fix or added item was in order, telling myself that their usage would only be temporary. I did fill each one with whatever goop I had on hand before...

Graduating from a Sailboat to a Trawler

We went from 3 years liveaboard sail to trawler to cuddy cabin to houseboat. You say you like to go outside...at 30mph the house can get to the Bahamas in 2 hours - it also has positive floatation. https://72land-n-sea.blogspot.com/2011/05/introduction.html

It's only 2 hours from Lauderdale to Bimini @ 30 mph. A better question might be "Where do you go from there?"
