    Hello

For those who are curious, video link below. What a great boat. My kind of boat, it can move along at a decent pace when required. But I shudder to think the gal/hr burn rate at WOT. I know what my sedan cruiser, much smaller than yours of course, burns at WOT and it isn't cheap. But if you...

    Composting toilets

Megabucks? You mean $1,300 for an Electrosan vs $1,000 for a composting head? My goodness, hardly a difference in cost and either is certainly not in the megabucks class. How much for the rest of the system (hoses, through hulls, tanks, wiring, etc ) and how much space do they take up? Part of...

The Pro's and Con's of Hitch Hiking

If some one had suggested this to me a few years ago I would have turned the idea down without any further consideration. But up in the PNW, coastal BC and SE Alaska, trailerable pocket tug boats are becoming more popular. You can drive from Mexico to Seattle and areas in a few days, or you...

    Composting toilets

For flies, add roughly one cup of diatomaceous earth to your coconut coir and turn the handle a number of times to move it around. For $23 I bought enough (about the size of a large laundry detergent box) to probably last me 10 years. What is diatomaceous earth? Diatomaceous earth is made from...

    Composting toilets

Some random thoughts after reading more posts here. The fan. The fan in the two popular brands of composting toilets is the weak point of the system. They will fail as they are on 24 hours. As I sit here typing this, with nothing in my Airhead, the fan is on. My refit guy put my Airhead in...

Clarion out of marine audio business?

So I did a search, I was curious. The results were almost all speakers are larger than 4.5 inches, as you found out, except for one 4 inch clarion speaker. My theory is that more folks want a decent sound so the larger speakers will give more "oomph" so to speak. I installed three flush...

Multiple Refers vs Full Size Refer

PS: in refit, I had an inch of foam added around the fridge/freezer. This addition definitely improved the performance of the fridge. If you would have asked me about the fridge pre-foam I would have said its okay. Post foam addition the fridge works really well. Nothing dripping down, etc...

On the BC Coast with my new Trawler

I thought I saw something here about you living in Alberta, maybe another thread. But I'll throw this out there. There are two marinas in Comox, public (larger) and private (smaller). You would be surprised at how many in these two marinas are from Alberta. They fly out from horsey land...

Multiple Refers vs Full Size Refer

I have a smaller 3.5 cubic foot fridge/freezer and a dedicated 3.5 freezer both 12 volts. I like having the two separated as on shorter trips I won't bother firing up dedicated freezer, used pretty much exclusively for longer trips. The fridge/freezer will be turned on until roughly...

Opinion - Teak or Fiberglass Dash on FB

The nice thing about an acrylic panel is that it can easily be removed and replaced in the far future. If it twir I, I'd built a mock up of the plastic panel with cutouts, take it to a plastic guy (they make lots of stuff for boats) and have him do it. The cost will be amazingly low for a boat...

    Composting toilets

For the composting toilet, I think some are using cat litter. Upon researching, another method is also becoming popular, pelletized bedding for horses and small animals. The media is suppose to have great absorbency. I think over time, other medias will be found to work quite well, not just...

Older story - how did he do it?

So I will link to the story (2017) of a guy who paddle boarded from Washington up to Alaska - 750 miles. I heard of this story about two years ago and for some reason it keeps popping back into my head. What has me wondering is his handling of Johnstone Strait to begin with, thinking wind and...

    Looking for Experience

Open to any and all ideas/suggestions. Okay I'm going to take your word on this. Sell your home, move out to BC and settle on Vancouver Island. You could come to Qualicum Beach, lots of retired military, I will give a link to my now deceased father. Many from Quebec, Ontario and Alberta...

Does parking come free with your moorage payment?

Eventually this profit-minded marina owner may sell to a condominium developer. What options will the captive homeowners have then? I know, the current zoning may prohibit residential uses, but when enough money is involved, zoning ordinances have a way of becoming flexible. This will never...

Does parking come free with your moorage payment?

The problem is in the rates. The problem is that people became trapped, pay rates they know are too high or sell their house. This occurred when a new owner took over the marina. I never really used the marina, the location of Deep Cove isn't ideal to keep a boat. To far to go until you can...

    Composting toilets

The Wynn's went composting in their motorhomes, then with their cat sailboat one is composting, what they use, and one is traditional, what their guests use. Below is a link I have plastered in many locations over the years. The big significant difference between Airhead (what I have) and...

Does parking come free with your moorage payment?

So if I get the jest of this thread, apologies if I'm wrong, there are no business people who want to take advantage of you, they are all loving people charging what they need to charge. Has that really been your experience in life. My experience is that most people try to do the right thing...

Does parking come free with your moorage payment?

I have been a boater at three marinas that I wholly paid for - Sewells in Horseshoe Bay, Mosquito Creek in North Vancouver and Comox Valley marina. If you go by land value, comparing the above marina I discuss in the live feed in Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay there is no comparison, the Horseshoe...

Does parking come free with your moorage payment?

When my sailboat was at Sewell's, it was great as I could leave my car in parking lot and go over to Nanaimo (foot passenger), be picked up and come back days latter the same way. The rates for the guy "fleecing" is much higher per foot. The people in the homes can't go else where other than...

Does parking come free with your moorage payment?

Don't know why this popped into my brain, well... actually I do. In the link below is where I used to live (only look at it during light hours PST), its a live link so if you look at it at night, it will be dark. [You have to hit - Watch this video on Youtube] So the marina you can see in...

    The perils of Stabilizers

What I don't understand, just going by the pictures and assuming the water conditions I see in the pictures were the same when the boat struck the whatever. Why were the stabilizers deployed? I think crappy water conditions, deploy the stabilizers. And why were they deployed in a narrow channel?
