Outside for NJ is the best route, but this time of year the windows of calm weather are few and far between, if you can run in the 15 knot range you could do it in a long day outside. Up Delaware bay and then down Chesapeake, again picking days etc. ICW from Norfolk south.

I've seen them not go off, so it can happen, not everything is green or red....

Not effective in the ocean, moderate wave action will be cavitating the prop like crazy, seen plenty of fisherman mount a small outboard on swing bracket next to main and most didn't work unless in ideal conditions, plus that's a pretty sizable boat with plenty of windage.

Not that uncommon when the safety factor for the shaft is below 5, the sharp milled angle for the key-way is a stress consideration, hence why in the old days they spooned out the end of the key way. Many other factors but without more (any) detail its throwing darts.

Right off the top of my head this does not sound like a good idea putting the furnace in the bilge area, but a better source then me would be a call to the manufacturer. All the best.

There are differences with a brand new clean fairly light company test and that of a used loaded up with crap boat. Your mileage may vary.....

Good diesel mechanic could easily go over your Yanmar, take measurements and give you a diagnoses. How does the fuel bowl look, clear/clean or black and filled with debris?

I think if you boat in the same area and know where and how reliable the pump outs are you can certainly get rid of it. But as psneeld stated not all areas have the same level of facilities....

Had a PVC one that lasted 7 years, had a hypalon that lasted 15 years when we retired it from all the PVC items attached to it like rub rail and air deck started falling apart. For me I would not get a PVC raft again.
