    Loose Stanchion Screws

The bulwark is just gelcoat, no teak. I think epoxy in the screw holes and a bit of 5200 under the base might be the answer. Realistically, if I need to get the off down the road it’s possible, just difficult.

    Loose Stanchion Screws

I believe I can move the stanchions enough to do that, and I think the bulwarks are just wood cored fiberglass, but I’m guessing at what the coring material is. The tenacity of 5200 frightens me a bit, but this might be a good application for it. While not entirely impossible, I’d hope not to...

    Loose Stanchion Screws

I wondered about the compression myself. There really isn’t a way to through bolt, the stanchions sit atop the bulwarks which are solid core under glass. Maybe something like sikaflex would be better than butyl in this case…

    Loose Stanchion Screws

Evening Folks, On my Hershine 42 Sundeck, several of the screws that hold the stainless stanchion bases to the fibreglass are loose and will back out again after being tightened. My initial thought is to pull the screws, make sure the holes are dry, fill with epoxy, re-drill a pilot hole and...

    Any info on Hershine trawlers?

New Hershine Owner We’ve just purchased a 1985 Hershine 42 Sundeck, our surveyor was impressed with the overall build quality and my wife and I were impressed with the space and layout. Looking forward to longer cruises than our Ranger Tug 25 would allow… although we loved our tug too!

    New Ranger Tug

I have a Ranger Tug, and do use my thrusters, but am quite capable of docking without them as well. That said, these boats have a small rudder and a single screw. They’re not as responsive as some. I’ve also had my thrusters cut out from over use when I was battling a stiff wind, not a fun...

    Anyone not rename their boat?

On our current boat, we kept the name. We intended to change it, but didn't do it right away, and over time it grew on us. The boat we had before this one was named "Purple Rain" when we bought it, complete with metallic vinyl purple lettering. I actually like Prince's music, but couldn't...

    Nordic tug 26

If you want larger windows, what about having a customer made, all glass door done out of aluminum? you'll get the functionality of a door, with the visibility of a window. Then you can store the existing doors for a future owner if they prefer the wood.

Raza Island Cruise - February 2021

Great feedback RSN, my wife told me the same thing... note to self, I should likely heed her advice more often.

    Desolation Sound - January 2021

Thanks for sharing it! We had fun making it. Working on another one as we speak, we just walked in the door from a weekend cruise. ?

Coffee challenge, Freeze dried versus pod crap

We tried the K machine and were not big fans of it. At home we use a good Breville drip machine and grinder. That said, if one is intent on using a K machine, they make a reusable cup that you can fill yourself. Allows you to choose the beans and tailor the grind and amount of grounds to get a...

    Favorite iOS Nav app

I have Navionics on my Lowrance chartplotter as well as on my iPhone and my iPad. It works extremely well, and if your iPad is SIM enabled, it has an internal GPS that is not dependent upon wifi signal.

    C & L Sea Ranger Pilothouse

Hah! I don’t think I would either. Somehow I think the hot tubs are better suited for much bigger boats.

    C & L Sea Ranger Pilothouse

Evening all, I’ve seen a C & L Sea Ranger Pilothouse for sale locally that seems to be in pretty good condition (based on the ad at least). Before I decide to go have a look at it, I’m interested to know what the combined wisdom of this forum has to say about them. This one is a 1980, 45...

    2 Person Hot Tub

I know this is an old thread, but I’m wondering how the 4788 held up with the hot tub on the upper deck. We are a couple of years away from buying a trawler style boat, and one of the considerations is that we’d like to be able to accommodate a small hot tub (was thinking Softub 140 -1400lbs...
