1973 36 GB water tank removal

Hey Rick. I will be removing mine today hopefully. I have already dismantled the wood framing for the teak grating and the port water tank. Also found a few more projects while poking around down there. Looking at replacing with Ronco Plastics tank B283. 60 gallons. Will be checking...

    Water tanks

Ok. Let's try this again. Yesterday's post seem to have been sucked into a black hole. So last week working in the lazerette I removed the teak grating. I then disassembled the wood framing. Two more projects presented themselves. 11' of exhaust hose from the transom to the aft engine bulkhead...

    Hour meters not working

If you have 12 volts across the terminals when the ignition is on, andvare not working, I would say they have lived their life span.

    Hawse pipes cutting lines

I can definitely see, in pics 3 and 4, that the backing plate is protruding past the plane of the hawse pipe. Grind the backing plate to same as the hawse pipe, then round off the edges.

TF data loss - all posts from yesterday gone?

I posted on the builders forum about the condition of GB water tanks, exhaust hose, and rudder shaft table.

    Ford Lehman Biodiesel

Had to drain and clean the two 150 gallon saddle tanks on my Peterbilt because of biodiesel. The scum that sits in the bottom just grows stuff. No amount of additives broke this stuff down. The truck did NOT sit. I made a living with it. Same reason I run nonethanol in the FL car before heading...

Just bought a Grand Banks 36

Welcome and congrats. We have a '79 'glass 36. Currently in the process of removing the original water tanks. Our boat looks lived in as the previous owners did for 15 of their 20 year ownership. Enjoy your Grand Banks. Always wanted one. Only took me 65 years.

Illinois Waterway Will Close This Summer

Yes. Knew of these lock closures. Won't be in a hurry. Hopefully traffic will thin a bit towards the end of October. Will be a chilly river segment.

For Sale: boat stuff for sale

Ok. I was hoping it was in Bradenton. Headed back down to FL tonight. Thought I could take a look. Starting the Loop sometime in mid June. Thanks.

For Sale: boat stuff for sale

Curious about the complete Freeman autopilot. Is it hydraulic or mechanical? I have a '79 36 GB with mechanical cable steering.

GB 42 Classic aft deck Bimini cover?

We purchased a 36 last August to do the Loop. Previous couple had lived on it for 15 years. While it is not a "bristol" boat, it has had many upgrades for long cruising, one of which is taking the original flybridge bimini and mounting it on the aft cabin as you have described. They also...

Corrosion in water tanks on a GB42C

I will be removing the water tanks in our '79 36 later this month. Port tank leaks according to previous owner. I would prefer to install plastic tanks. I had several emails with John Shanahan a few months ago. Led me to the conclusion to tackle this myself. Looking for diagram and/or...

Compost Head - my take on Natures Head after a month

I am following this subject with interest. Our boat came with a "composting" head in aft cabin and raw water head in the forward cabin. I purchased a second manual pump head to replace the aft head. Wife is concerned about not hitting the diverter when when peeing. Curious as to whether this has...

    Dinghy Dock Limits

What some people call dinghies, I would call runabouts. "Back in the day" most dinghies were oar powered. Parents had a 34' sailboat. Used a 6' dinghy to carry the 4 of us to shore. Later propelled by a 1 and half hp Johnson. Got that when I was 10. Still have it albeit a yard ornament. Now have...

    This week's Sinking and Stranding.

I agree Pete. With that winter storm coming at least you have that half of cow. If you lose power just take it outside. When I have storms/hurricanes come through, I'm running the generator for a week or two. Boat sinking are akin to, but maybe not the severity of, planes sudden loss of...

Hello there! I have a question about a trawler

That is a salty looking vessel for a sundeck. Don't see clear view screens much in production trawlers. Appears to be an aluminum hull. Thinking there would be rust showing on a steel hull as long as that boat has apparently been sitting. Could you tell us the location of this boat?
