    Jefferson 53 LRC?

Don’t know about the 53’, but we love our 60’ Jefferson Marquesa. We keep it at Longboat Key Club. Our two dock neighbors have Jeffersons (Mar Largo versions) also and live aboard during the winter. They are good boats.

    Harvey Canal closure

The Harvey Canal in New Orleans will be closed on and off for a while. Here is the link for info: https://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/Portals/56/docs/Navigation/NavigationBulletins/HCSG_19-05.pdf?ver=2019-01-14-095142-003 For those travelling the ICW to New Orleans, you may have to use the...

    holding tank filter

On my Mainship the holding tank filter was located atop the holding tank and connected to the vent line. I got rid of it as per the advice of the previous post.

Marina to leave boat in Bahamas?

Take a look at Spanish Wells Yacht Haven. Spanish Wells is a neat and safe town, with a proper grocery. It also has a boat yard, and various mechanics if needed. It is a short hop to Highbourne Cay or Harbor Island to explore Eleuthera, or the Exumas. It is probably a little harder to fly...

    Heading north

You are welcome! We are on the boat at Longboat Key and it finally is cool enough to open up the boat. Have a safe trip home.

    Heading north

Be sure to take a side trip to the Shiloh Battlefield when you get to Pickwick Lake. It is a very moving experience. We stayed at Grand Harbor Marina and used their courtesy van. They also had a cd for a car tour of the battlefield that was very helpful. Hope the weather clears. There is not a...

    Heading north

When you get to Columbus, we enjoyed visiting Tennessee Williams birthplace, and the Waverly Plantation. Also took a side trip to Aberdeen, MS via rental car and did the self guided home tour. Kathy would like it.... We stayed at the Columbus Marina and liked it, but that was in 2014. Safe...

    Generator blew up

We had some work done by On Site Marine in Spanish Wells. Spanish Wells is a long day trip from Staniel or a short hop from Highborne. Spanish Wells Yacht Haven can help finding mechanics. Not as far as Nassau and a pleasant and cheaper stop. The lobster fleet is based there so there is...

    Heading north

I had the Dog River people do extensive work on my engines, and they did good work. Sorry to hear about your issues, but you are in a good place to have them addressed. Boating is such a love hate activity, but the love always wins! I guess we are a bit touched....

    Sci-Fi suggestions?

A second for Ryk Brown. His Frontier Saga books are light and entertaining. Any of the Star Wars books by Timothy Zahn are also good.

Need Some Advice From South Louisiana People and Beyond.

We have struggled with the same question. We have a slip for our boat behind our house in Houma but after years of trying different venues now leave it at Longboat Key, FL. There are three non stop flights to Tampa daily from Nola and we can be at the boat in five hours from the house. While...

    ACR Search light

I have owned several boats with ACR 100 searchlights. I have always changed the bulbs by removing the two screws and taking the front faceplate off. The bulbs come right out without having to fool with the mount. My manual has an appendix C which describes this procedure for changing the...

Bringing the Sea Star home from FL to LA

We live in Houma, but our boat lives at Longboat Key Moorings, across the bay from Marina Jack. Many great restaurants within walking distance of Marina Jack. Mozaic and Bijou are two of our favorites. Tell Rock at the marina piano bar hello from us! Hope your weather window opens. If not...

    Bahamas Itinerary and Q's

The trip from Pete's Pub in the Abacos to Spanish Wells is doable on a good day. The marina at Spanish Wells has been upgraded and is very nice and reasonable. Spanish Wells has a proper grocery, and is no longer dry! From there you can take the fast ferry to Harbor Island for the day, or...

    Sarasota entrance pass

Heading south in the gulf, I would enter at Longboat Pass. It has been dredged and is marked. Big Sarasota Pass is dicey and best to do only on calm and bright days. We went through Longboat Pass a few weeks ago traveling from St Pete to LBKM where we keep our boat. We have a 5' draft and...

Ortona FL to Longboat Key questions

I keep Serenity at Longboat Key Moorings. She is 60' with a 5' draft. Boca Grande and Venice Inlets are easy. Big Sarasota Pass is not. It shoals, and the sandbars move and are not always well marked. I would take it only on a calm and sunny day, and proceed with caution if your draft is...

    How about any Jefferson owners?

We bought a 2000 60' Jefferson two years ago, and love the boat. As with all boats, there are compromises. The Marquessa is a great boat to live on or have a family get together, as it is roomy and well laid out. We just completed a 1500 mile loop around the Bahamas, and had the kids and...

    Christmas Boat Parade HOUMA LA.

The growth was mainly due to the oil and construction industries. Naturally that has slowed with the drop in oil prices. The area had only about 60,000 people when I grew up here and was primarily an agricultural and seafood economy. The area boomed in the 70s with the oil industry. The...

Some facts regarding the Houma area: The Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux Metropolitan Statistical Area is a metropolitan area in the Acadiana region of southern Louisiana, United States that covers two parishes - Lafourche and Terrebonne. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 208,178...
