Upper or Lower Helm Station Use

For me all docking is from FB, and when fishing I'm on the FB always when trolling. When running and its cold I'm at the lower helm - sunny and nice on FB.

Latest VHF choices to replace old Icom M602?

This is a screaming good deal! I just picked one up for my boat too good to pass up: https://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1%7C344%7C2028691%7C2207355&id=5383844

    Fuel starvation symptoms

The racor gauge will only show a vacuum if the motors are running for a while. Sounds like you either have a blocked/restricted vent or pickup tube. You might try forcing some air back down into the tank from the line connecting the tank to the racor see if you hear lots of bubbles.. Also if...

    Edison Ford Marina

No experience with those places - no fuel dock you can probably live with, but do they have a pump out (they often go hand in hand)? Your boat can hold a lot more fuel then sewage, so pump out for a live aboard would be real important for me anyways.

    Exterior caulk?

The gooey stuff from underneath almost looks like putty or old white butyl its also what box store bathroom calk ends up looking like. Sikaflex 291 is what I would use once the old mess is cleaned up real well..

Help...dead in the water, air in fuel lines!!!

Yes its in the primary lines one each after the racor. I'm using the good ones about $12 each. I have researched and followed up with ABYC surveyors and a friend that's in the guard. I'm told they are fine for use with diesel below deck but NOT for gas. One of the surveyors I spoke with also has...

Help...dead in the water, air in fuel lines!!!

I didn't read every post here, but Ill just add that I recently went through fixing an air leak in my fuel system. The number one thing I added to my fuel system is a squeeze bulb placed motor side of the racor. It allows you to bleed a completely dry system all the way to the injector pump in...

    Proper Radio Channel Usage

On west coast if you use 16 for any of these things other then to hail another boat or distress to contact CG you get a stern warning from CG most of the time. 16 is silent most of the time for a reason. Even on low frequency most of the time the CG picks it up anyways. Its ok to use it to...

    Counter top options

I was considering wood but that will require demo If the counter top I think. I’ll probaly just go with another sheet of Formica. I need to have a close look when I take the trim off and make final decision. Thanks everyone for the ideas and product suggestions.

    Counter top options

I'm trying to decide on a refinish for the counter top in my C&L trawler. Currently its the original Formica. I would like to put something over it I think, and I'm looking for what others have done. Obvious choice is a layer of new Formica type material, but looking for options/suggestions...

    Don't Know Jack?

Almost every case I do agree with you. This was the exception! Bat crap all over the place = wife would not be happy.. Yes pointing that out helped quite a bit for the no bat side.. My point is Youtube often looks good on the screen, but at least experience before you buy in.

    Don't Know Jack?

"Girlfriend (future wife) likes sailing catamarans because of the videos we have watched" First of all go on a sail boat for a couple weeks and see how you guys like the cabin and the actual sailing part. Then go on a trawler and see how you like it. You tube is on a screen and the videos are...

    Shorepower short - help diagnose?

Looks like short at the boats shore plug right? The shore power supply breakers should have tripped - if they are bad/stuck from corrosion ext. that's the likely reason the wires melted as much as they did I think. Glad you are ok!

    Docking a 44' twin screw

Like said pends on the angle of the current/wind. My worst docking time comes with no wind and a flood tide as it pulls me away from the dock sideways. With any NW wind (most common where I'm at) it will help counter the incoming tide. In most cases no matter what Midship cleat right down to the...

    C&L Trawler 1978 37ft

I have one with 2K hours they run great. Yeah those hours are non issue if the motors are good. Boat is really comfortable nice ride. Typical issues do occur with these boats like others windows, tanks, teak decks if it has them. Post some pics!

    Fuel starvation symptoms

Sounds like the same situation I had. Such a pain when it takes hrs of running to rear it’s head. I’d suggest checking all flair fittings, hoses ext. if no go I’d jump straight to using a squeez bulb as a test tool unless you have all copper. Like I said I ripped it all apart in the end to...

    Dry Dock sinks

That pic is 7 years old and those look like two big old rusty fuel tanks back then! Have to guess they only sank to the bottom so now they are a "dock" :)

    Sonic anti fouling

If you have a cored hull the install is not so simple. I'm thinking even once installed correctly on a cored hull the results would be even more iffy. Even if the test is biased and performed by the company making it, that would be something at least. The theory about how and why it "works"...

    Sonic anti fouling

An independent test for this is real easy. Just get a 15' cat without paint. Now put one transducer in one of the pontoons and not in the other. Now put it in the water for a month or two depending on where you are and then have a look. Leave the antifouling paint out of the equation. Yeah its...

    Attessa IV collision

I've fished off the Prowler, its a good sized beefy boat really surprised it didn't do more damage. It must have been a side swipe. Very sad for the loss of life here. How two boats that size cant avoid one another with a lookout, radar, ais ext. is scary. Yeah watchkeeping issues on both...

    Painting my mast

Im going to take some pictures of what I have. What your describing is what Im thinking when I look at the current mount. The mount is U shaped and 1/4" SS with two 3/4" through bolts. Its around 10" tall on either side and is the full with of the mast's square base (around 7"). In my limited...
