    M/V vs. M/Y

*So, I guess I shall refer to myself on the radio as "Monkey Motor Vessel, Happy Destiny" from now on. *

Starting battery - need your input

When I bought the boat it had three 8 Ds, which I replaced with a set of six golf cart batteries for the house, and a single group 31 to start my 420hp Cat. Works great.*

    Use of Engine Room Blowers

Blowers are not necessary for safe operation of a diesel powered vessel, but might be helpful in providing sufficient air for engine operation, if in fact your air intakes are too small.

    Your trawler's range

*I love the Cape Dory 28. We would have one today if it weren't for the previous owner lacking the ability to decide if he really wanted to sell. That one had a 175 horse Volvo. I believe she was an eleven knot boat. *

    Deck delamination

Generally, the advise already given is good. All I would add, is to investigate the area all around the known damage, to verify the source of the moisture. Next, I would apply heat and air flow via fan at the opening you have. I would continue this for a month or so, hoping to wick the moisture...

    Float Plans...

Yes we have a float plan. It involves keeping the shiny side up and the waterline visible. No, we don't file it with the Coast Guard. When I am cruising, I try not to have a plan other than what I feel like that morning. If I were making a serious crossing of many days, I would definitely file...

    Your trawler's range

Full cruise is 15 knots, but we spend much of our time at 8.5 knots, which gives us about four hundred miles with a hundred gallon reserve. The USCG recommends one third of your capacity be kept for reserve. Seems like overkill, but since it poses no problem to us with a three hundred gallons...

Stop what you're doing and buy this boat

*Carl I saw her in Friday Harbor a couple years ago. She is flawless. I read a story about her and her owner at the time. As I remember it, he bought a shipyard in Anacortes for the purpose of refitting her, and spent a few years doing so. If I'm not mistaken, it was a Passagemaker article...

She has a pretty behind...(considering enclosed smimplatform)

That's it. Mike and RickB are right on the money. I guess my choice would be to cut through the existing transom, allowing a 4' overlap of new and existing stringers, both bolted and glassed. And, with the addition of a heavy bulwark on the hull sides as well as new transom, would make a good...

She has a pretty behind...(considering enclosed smimplatform)

*I beg to differ, but what you show in the photo on your most recent post (dated 2 hrs, 22 mins. ago), IS A HULL EXTENSION. Yes, it would necessitate a proper attachment, which should be determined by a naval architect, but in the long run would assure a finished product which would not have a...

She has a pretty behind...(considering enclosed smimplatform)

*Were it me, I think I would look real hard at extending the hull to accomplish your goal. It would not be a lot more work, and i don't think your maneuverability would be diminished. The advantage would be that you could use the space between the hull and deck of the space as a fish hold. I...

    1 engine or 2?

One is all you need. I spend half the time and money on engine maintenance. As to maneuverability, I always get to the dock. Reliability has already been spoken to by Baker.

    Cleaning mould / mildew

*Same here. I have only one little nook on the boat that doesn't receive enough air circulation, and will develop a little mold if I allow it. But I place a pillbox dehumidifier there for the winter, and the problem is solved. Back to the bleach thing, I would add that FEMA is revising it's...
