    do you need a strainer

As long as we're on the topic, let me relate a story from last summers cruising with Marin. We were drifting and putting around deciding what to do near Center Island in the Washington, San Juans, when my temp alarm went off. A quick check of the guage proved that we were just leaving the safe...

    PNW Summer Berthing

*I have personally experienced 65 knot winds in August (confirmed by anemometer), when fifteen knots was the NOAA prediction. This was in Fossil Bay, Sucia Island. That was just one of many times I have personally experienced. You must have been here during four of our more idyllic years. I'm...

Bellingham has the advantage of the airport, and direct flights to many locations including Seattle for other connections. However, the closest grocery store to the marina is a mile or so. Taxi would be good.

Bob I'm not so sure about the wireless remote operation from an ipad myself, having looked over the manual at some length. I will have to get with my supplier and see if I confused statements made about another model with that of my model. I'll let you know. Never the less, the ipad connection...

    Confined to Quarters

-- Edited by SeaHorse II on Wednesday 7th of March 2012 02:56:47 PM *Come on Walt. Give it a little more time. You never know how it will turn out. You are one of a few here I can count on for a reasonable approach to most everything. You notice, I said MOST.*

*I can't speak to availabilty, but that you can determine by talking to the marinas. Bellingham is just completing installation of a bunch of new docks and may be able to accommodate your arrival. Bellingham offers accessability equal to Anacortes, and yet has better airport access. You can fly...

    Dinghy Storage Opinions

FF- Wouldn't you want all that garbage about 150' behind you, rather than right on the boat with you?* Scott-I agree with you regarding life raft on board. However, my guess is that for most of us, our dink IS our life raft. Speculation only. In our cruising waters, we see mostly local...

    sanitation hoses

There is a mild acid available at your marine supply store for cleaning calcinization out of toilets that should do the job. Sorry, but I can't recall the name at the moment.* I'll bet Peggy will pop in and tell us.* -- Edited by Carey on Tuesday 6th of March 2012 02:58:48 PM

I purchased a Standard Horizon CP590 plotter yesterday, and was informed by the shop owner that you can use an ipad to operate the primary unit remotely and wirelessly, and also serve as a second unit for flybridge use. I will look into this further. One of the reasons I chose the Standard...

    Tornadoes hit Island Cove Marina

*I owe an apology to Angus at this point. My comment as to why you want to stay in a place that you get clobbered by tornadoes frequently, was clearly out of line. I've been to Tenn several times in my life and really loved the place. I guess my favorite town is Franklin since an old Navy buddy...

    Cheoy Lee Trawler?

*Is it me, or is that vessel much better looking without the canvas? Lose the flybridge enclosure, and I could like it. The wannabee windows don't help at all in this case. IMHO! -- Edited by Carey on Friday 2nd of March 2012 11:32:53 PM

    How Slow Can I Go?

The secret as I understand it is to make sure you are running at the correct temperature. If you can maintain normal temp at low rpm, you are fine. I run mine this way, and just for insurance, I run up to full cruise rpm for fifteen minutes every two hours. This method is approved by many, And...

    Boarding

With our low freeboard, we are only about twelve inches above most floating docks, so it's an easy step. We do have those stick-on black non-skid strips on the deck, and non-skid covered steps as you enter the cockpit. There is also a vertical 7/8" stainless tube going from the side deck to the...

*Ditto on the "Strange Lines". I don't like the exterior. Sans canvas, it might look better, or maybe worse. i can't tell. I will say however that I like the full width saloon. The interior might make up for the exterior. Not likely, but...

    New Dink

I have a friend who just takes the cover off his outboard and adds a little primer and scuff marks. Works like a charm.
