    Sad boat

    * * * I couldn't agree more Eric. The windows are totally out of proporsion with the house. I think the house is a little large for the hull as well. IMHO

    Backing

*Is there an advantage or disadvantage to having a right hand prop or left? SD Good question. I don't think there is, accept maybe as it relates to your actual dock arrangement in your home slip. In my case, I have a right hand rotation in forward, which is great when it comes to going forward...

    Backing

    * * * ** Ditto *We are bow in as well. Part of the reason is that there are triangular fillers where our finger pier meets the main float, which forces the boat three feet further into the fairway if backed in. Another factor is that we are single screw, and not having precise steerage when...

    Anchor Chain Swivels

If you are talking about one of those little boat anchor windlasses like the one Marin posted as shown here, you have a wildcat on one side and an item whose name is not politically correct on the other side. -- Edited by RickB on Friday 13th of January 2012 01:28:58 PM Both are correct.*

    What the Guests See

*They look like crepe myrtles to me. The trees in question are Arbutus, also going by the name Madrone or Madrona. They grow only very close to the salt water coastline in the NW. I have tried transplanting them, but with no success. They insist on crappy, rocky soil and salt air.* -- Edited...

    Paper Charts

Not necessarily a negative thing.* Adding a flying bridge or standing up there will reduce the rate of roll, make the boat ride better, and make it less likely that someone will be "thrown off" the deck or the bridge. There is a lot more to stability than the KG. *Right you are Rick!

Need help finding full displacement boat

I have to say that having the additional interior room would be preferential, given the little bit of time I spend on deck.

    Fire in the sky

Not taken on the boat, but fire in the sky it is. It was the beginning of a thunderstorm in Memphis last spring OK, I am a little color challenged. -- Edited by Carey on Friday 6th of January 2012 06:09:19 PM

Need help finding full displacement boat

*Note that there is no intention to cross an ocean. Coastal cruising with an effort toward watching the weather might save the need for bombproof windows. -- Edited by Carey on Thursday 5th of January 2012 11:30:51 PM

Need help finding full displacement boat

One boat that first jumps to my mind, and would likely fit the bill for a cruising couple, and likely one of the most affordable, would be a 40' Willard.*
