1980 Mainship MK1 bulkhead mounted bearing size

The shaft is out. I had to cut the mid ship bearing off with a cutting wheel. Now off to the prop shop for a shaft check, new engine coupler, new bearing, and new stuffing box. Removal of scars from my hands and forearms optional...

1980 Mainship MK1 bulkhead mounted bearing size

Update. I was able to cut the coupler off the shaft. Cut completely through on the key side and made a notch about half way through on the back side. The coupler slowly came off after i drove it open with a wedge. The shaft is almost out of the boat. The final 5 inches seems to be stuck in the...

Did you see the pictures I posted. Waiting for the engine to warm up now so I can send some warms ones

    Diesel fuel in oil

The smoke has no blue in it. It generally rises up and drifts away. There is no slick on the water from the smoke. With the injectors cracked the engine does run worse but the amount of smoke remains relatively constant.

Still getting alot of white smoke. My injection pump does not have the inspection plate to really hone in on the timing. Any ideas, what am I missing

    Diesel fuel in oil

Thanks. I have the feeling I have residual air in the system from it sitting for a while when I was chaging out parts. Hopefully it's a relatively easy find.

One part for the injection pump took a while to come in, maybe they forgot to do a calibration step

    Diesel fuel in oil

So I have the new injector pump in along with the new injectors. Upon starting and idling lots of white smoke. Not sure what's going on. Each injector was cracked to check to see if that was an issue but no change. Also advanced and retarded injection pump timing but the smoke was still heavy...

    Diesel fuel in oil

Turns out my injection pump needs a major rebuild. The diesel place indicated two major components needed to be replaced. Fingers crossed that was the problem. Sorry dont have the paper in front of me now to tell you what the 2 components are.

    Diesel fuel in oil

Agree with all. The injectors were done about a month ago and they were pretty dirty. Lift pump was changed 2 months ago but I might change again since sometimes they fail and are relatively cheap. The injection pump was leaking fuel down the side of the block. Expecting a report on Monday on...

Having injection pump rebuilt now so we will see if that does it

    Diesel fuel in oil

I agree. I am only messing with stuff that is documented in the manual and they suggested for adjustment back in 1979. The at 2350 rpm I was running around 13 knots or so, oil pressure during that run was fine because it was fresh

    Diesel fuel in oil

Wide open is 2350 rpm. I tried adjusting with injection pump within the margins allowed by the slots on the bracket that attaches to the engine. It is currently in the position that smokes the least, but could go some more, but I am out of adjustment room

    Diesel fuel in oil

The tanks are about 6 inches higher than the engine block. I am ordering a new lift pump so we will see what that does. The return rail seems to be flowing ok, but I would think return fuel volume would increase with rpm or is that an incorrect assumption. The oil increasing over night is a...
