    Leaks!! >:(

It would be interesting to see you try to remove all traces of silicone from 1/2" down inside a crack. My repairs using this stuff have NEVER required further attention. Probably because it works so well.

    AC tap connection

Haha! I smashed an Etch-A-Sketch when I was a little kid to figure out how it worked. My dad thought it was great. My mother, not so much.

    Trawler or sailboat?

A good financial analysis will show that a snailbote and a proper trawler will cost about the same to operate, all things considered.

    FORD LEMAN 120 Maintenance

Also, take a manual temperature reading on your engine. Use a thermometer in the open tank if you can do so, or use an infrared thermometer. You'd be surprised at how far off some temp gages are. Mine reads 10 degrees F higher than the actual engine temp.

    FORD LEMAN 120 Maintenance

Running without a thermostat can make the engine run hotter! I discovered this years ago with an old car, but what happens is the water runs through the cooling system too fast to actually cool down. Sounds like you need to use a radiator flush to clean the FW cooling system out, then replace...

    Leaks!! >:(

You can try flowable silicone caulk. It's the consistency of cold honey and flows down into cracks etc., then cures up. It's clear and can be found at any auto parts place.

    towing

If you tow a lot, you can make an adjustable bridle. Run one long towing line to the dinghy, through a block attached to a second line. This will form a "Y" and make a nice bridle. You can lengthen or shorten the long line to bring the dink to where it rides best. You can also adjust the line...

    Shaft crevice corrosion

    Sweet.

Do you run with fenders deployed?

Never when underway. However, we do laugh at those who do.

    Mattress's...Foam or Innerspring?

Side to side, which also makes it a lot easier to get to the storage under the berth.

    Shaft crevice corrosion

Not unless it's causing problems. It can eat up your packing in no time if it's bad, so if you're continually re-packing and adding rings, that could be the issue. Mine had some issues when I first bought the boat, so we replaced the shaft, packing gland hose, and put rings of Gore's GFO packing...

    Pics on Yachtworld are misleading!

I bet if you want to look over a boat, someone on this list probably lives close and would be happy to take a look for you, and take pix. I know I've done this for people before. I enjoy doing it and it saves the prospective buyer some time and $$.

    Mattress's...Foam or Innerspring?

Some of the best boat $$ I ever spent was on my Handcraft mattress. Home - Handcraft Mattress Company Innerspring with a pillow topper, folds in half. Really made for the marine market; mine got soaking wet one weekend with rainwater. I just stood it up on it's end for a few days outside and...

    Shaft crevice corrosion

Ouch! Worst case I've ever seen.

    Building your own Paravane System?

I bought the plans to add some to my Krogen 42, but never have. The first problem is that you have to lose the mast, so you lose the ability to fold that down. They are well engineered though, and there are some parts that need to be installed below the outer decks to spread the load. Like...

$5,000 to spend on NAV system?

I would recommend avoiding Raymarine. I would also suggest Furuno for radar, since it seems to be the choice of commercial installations and boaters. You can't go wrong with Garmin for nav. Personally, I use a computer with daylight screen for nav, and I prefer my radar separate, but to each his...

    Long Distance Cruising

Because if you had, you'd understand my statement. You argue from a point of no knowledge or experience. I'm done. Those of you who DO have experience with sextants will know what I mean.

    Mattress Isolation?

    And much cheaper.

    Mattress Isolation?

HyperVent Marine - Putting An End To Condensation A really good solution, but expensive. Others have used cedar trellis material or polymer. There have to be other materials, as this is just an open melt-spun polymer.

    Long Distance Cruising

Again, have you ever used a sextant? This is a yes or no question.

    Patching a fender

PVC cement and an old piece of PVC from another fender, or wherever.

What do you do to fend off the birds?

Shoot one or two and leave their littlel carcasses for a day or two. That seems to dissuade them.

    Long Distance Cruising

Who says he didn't just get there following airplane trails? Have you ever used a sextant?

    Chartplotter my way!

Wow, do you? I mean have night vision with that on. Looks like it would blind you.
