    Boat Name Help Please

Another good one along those lines is "The Office". So where are you at again?

    Boat prices/value.

The value of a boat is usually equal to or less than the lowest price similar boat on the market at the time. It doesn't matter what equipment, or what year as long as they are close, but a ratty, poorly kept boat similar to yours will bring the price down to it's level. Hope for it to sell...

One of my favorites is "Shewantedit". Another is "Passing Gas".

Wix is all I will use. Not at my home computer so I don't have the link, but there is a good mopar oil filter study somebody did and I was convinced. Also was convinced that Fram was crap.

Great story! Mind if I reprint it in my local marina newsletter?

    Your raw-water intake

I use these on my main engine and genset intakes. The rest are Groco's round strainers with holes in them, that have hinges and can swing opening for cleaning. The ones below have always worked perfectly with no problems.

Christmas Boat Parade Pre-Party - Clear Lake

Our annual boat parade party is Friday night, December 7th, pier 15 at South Shore Harbour marina in League City, TX. Starts around 1900 and we'll have live music by Jerry Diaz of Hanna's Reef and who knows who else. Come on out and enjoy the decorated boats, meet some old and new friends, and...

    Propane Bottle Location Requirements

Surveyors always feel they have to find "something". The better your boat is set up and maintained, the more they have to make up stuff. I've seen some really silly stuff on mine, like "No compass deviation card was sighted." Or a wing door that had a latch that didn't work. It was listed as a...

    Hard Bottom Paint

I've been using Petit Trinidad SR for decades and I get an easy 5 years out of it. I also have it on my dinghy, and it's approaching 8 years with no fouling. Good stuff!

    Home sweet home

Part of living aboard is continuously purging "stuff" off the boat. Things multiply in the dark like t-shirts, cups, gadgets, etc. Lots of folks want to gift you items that are totally useless on the boat.

    Aqualarm Wet Exhaust Overheat Alarm

I have one that's been disabled for years. On one of my cruises, it started making noises, like stray current was getting to the alarm. It became irritating so I had to disconnect it. Could very well be my boat though...never spent that much time troubleshooting it.

    Wet exhaust seacock

I have one of those and it works very well. The audible alarm that came with it was a little wimpy for my tastes, so got a MUCH louder one that really lets everybody know if it comes on. Luckily, it's only sounded when I turn the key on to start the engine.

    canvas waterproofing

Thompson's is parrafin wax dissolved in a solvent. If you Google around enough, you can find the formula. I had it once, but misplaced it. I too use 303.

    Pay Back Time?

Because we get in too much trouble for beatin' the hell out of them nowdays.

    Vacuum Storage Bags

They work well, as long as the clothes are really dry when you put them in. You can throw a new dryer sheet in there too, and that will keep them fresh smelling. If you're traveling with them away from your boat/home, be sure to get the kind that you don't have to use a vacuum to collapse...

    Ebay

I listed my last boat on E-Bay and had a winning bidder. Keep in mind that "winning" a bid on E-Bay only puts the buyer and seller in contact. There is no binding contract. The only thing you can do if they back out is post a negative about them with E-Bay. That being said, I got all the...

How TF informed my post Sandy experience

I'm in NYC right now, working in the NY state emergency operations center. Seems like gas stations are coming back online fairly quickly. My company is bringing hundreds of light towers, generators, pumps for dewatering tunnels, etc. and the manpower to deploy all that.

    SSB vs. Satphone

If you're in a lifeboat, a GPIRB trumps a sat phone any time! :)

    HMS Bounty/ Hurricane Sandy

Captain only one missing now. One crew dead, others rescued. They were fine until their generator failed, and the pumps couldn't keep up with the water ingress.

    securing for hurricanes

This boat was tied down in a boatyard during hurricane Ike. No damage to boats with floating slips.

    SSB vs. Satphone

MMSI - you can call for help with your current position, boat information, etc. You can get all kinds of weather information via weatherfax. Free e-mail. Communications capability when the SHTF.

    securing for hurricanes

Only two category 5's have made landfall at that intensity. Most weaken as they approach shore.
