Is the front unit higher than the rear? The head affects the water flow.

    Better living through chemistry

Lacquer thinner is probably the strongest of those. Boatlife makes a caulk remover specifically for their products, but I've only used it on fresh caulk. Is the 1/4 round wood? Are you worried about soaking that in a solvent?

    Working from home,errrr boat questions.

I live on and work from my boat. I'm in sales, so I combine telemarketing with outside sales and hardly ever go into the "office".

a reminder of why we "deal" with owning boats

Here's one of my favorite cruising pix. From Shell Island Anchorage near Port Arthur, TX.

No, I cruised my planing hull boat on one engine at 7-8 knots for a year to make sure I could really stand traveling at that speed. Saved a lot of gas! Got the full displacement Krogen 42 and love it! You just have to plan for traveling at that speed. I love the fuel bills, or lack therof. :)

    Picked up a Fortress Guardian 37 y-day

Never had a problem. I have sharpened the tips, but then we hardly ever see grass or seaweed on the bottoms around here.

    Weapons Preservation on board

Here's a good site with laws by state: Handgunlaw.us Like I said earlier, even if you live aboard you do not have the rights someone does in a land based home. You are a conveyence, a mode of travel. That's why the USCG needs no warrant to board and search you. For carrying on a boat, you need...

    Picked up a Fortress Guardian 37 y-day

I've anchored for years with a Fortress FX-23 on various boats, including my current Krogen 42 in soft mud on the Gulf coast. I've always used the standard fluke angle, not the more open one and never had a problem. I've had 6 boats rafted up to me in Offatt's bayou in Galveston on this anchor...

Short Cruises Out of Galveston Bay

The oldest marina there is Bridge Harbor, has a pool, a small store and now a grill. Mingo Marquez is the harbormaster, great guy! Across the ICW is Bridge Point marina, newer but no pool. Cheapest is the municipal marina up the channel a bit; no amenities. Pick your poison!

    A truly anguished boat owner

I just had to laugh when he stated it was "shovel ready". It is a shame though.

Krogen 42 like the one I own is a great boat, and you should be able to find one in your price range. Single vs. twin debate will never be settled, but I decided if there are so many single engine boats out there, why couldn't I handle one? I've always liked my choice!

    Weapons Preservation on board

Nope. You are on a piece of transportation, not a home, even if you live aboard. Long guns present no problem but to be safe, you should get a concealed carry permit if you are carrying pistols.

    Doing Your Own Air Conditioning

The stuff I described is rigid, different from the bubble wrap stuff. BTW, some friends down the pier used that bubble wrap stuff on their windows with the metallized side to the glass. The metal "fused" itself to the glass and everything we have tried has not removed it, so be careful. Razor...

    Weapons Preservation on board

I've never had a problem, but the inside of my boat is always air conditioned unless we're under way. Of course, most of my guns are stainless steel or marinized (I have that shotgun mentioned). Standard care should be OK, but if you want some extra long term protection there are some oils with...

Short Cruises Out of Galveston Bay

If you're in the Clear Lake area, the quickest overnighter is to anchor out behind Red Fish island. Offatt's bayou in Galveston is great. An 8 hour trip from Clear Lake West will get you to Freeport. Bridge Harbor has a pool and a small ship's store. There is a municipal marina up river which is...
