I've seen those, but never used one. Wouldn't it fill up the galley / kitchen with smoke?

Propane is fine at all the marinas around the Galveston Bay area that I know of, but charcoal is banned. Too messy, too much of a fire hazard, and past experience with people just not handling it well. Nobody that I know cares if others fire up a grill. It just makes us hungry! Speaking of, I...

    Kadey Krogen 42 Deck Thickness

The date on that drawing is 10/27/83. Here is another snip...it appears the very forward deck IS plywood, right around the windlass. I'd be happy to mail this or any of the other drawings to anyone interested.

    Kadey Krogen 42 Deck Thickness

Let's see if this posts...these are the engineering drawings of the deck structure. Well, guess not. It's about a 5 meg .pdf. I have this and all the other engineering drawings for the Krogen 42 if anyone wants them e-mailed. In the meantime, here's a snip that should answer your question.

    Kadey Krogen 42 Deck Thickness

The decks were designed to be used as fiberglass decks. The teak was an additional cost option (can you believe?) and of course added some strength, but they were designed to be used without the teak.

Check swimming pool stores too. They use a lot of these fittings on spas.

    Mail in Alaska while Cruising

I have a box at the UPS Store. They can receive not only mail, but UPS, FedEx, etc. requiring signatures. They've even received freight for me. Nice advantage in that you have a physical address vs. a PO Box. They will sort and forward per your instructions. For instance, I call them every 2-3...

    Postponed.

3 storage units? You'll pay a lot over the years for those, possibly enough to buy new stuff when you need it again. Do the math and you may be able to scale back to one or two, for just the real collectibles. It's usually not worth it to store washers, dryers, refrigerators, furniture, etc. For...

    Toys on Board

I have one of those super soaker water guns. It's the long tube inside tube kind. Can be fun to spray people but also works as a bilge pump for the dinghy or in an emergency. Couple of noodles too.

    Holding tank hoses

That tool is called a hose pick. Search for that and you'll all types and sizes. I like the one that bends back toward the handle, since you can get a lot more leverage pulling than pushing. Heat gun will help too. Might be a good time to replace the hoses, if they're permeated.

UPS on cheap inverter = no

It's a Maxx 400 W inverter. Usually, I plug the inverter into a 12V outlet, then into a surge strip, then the computer and peripherals plug into that, and it works fine. But the UPS plugged into the inverter doesn't even act like it's plugged into anything. Oh well, I'll find a home for it. The...

Do you really need an inverter?

Never had a big inverter and never needed one. I only have a couple of little ones. The main use is to run the navigation computer, but on a couple of occasions I have used one for the TV at anchor.

UPS on cheap inverter = no

Well, I HAD a good idea. I got a little UPS to run my navigation computer off of, from a little 12V inverter. The idea was that I could turn on the computer THEN the engine without crapping out the computer. If I do that now, the voltage drop kills the computer because the inverter stops putting...

    Opinion on Line Cutters

I have a serrated edge line cutter on my Krogen, and it has worked at least twice. Like someone else said, if they are working, you may never know. I have a test report that's very informative comparing the various types. Among the fixed blade types, the plain knife edge worked better than the...
