    Washer/Dryer combo

I've had two on two different boats and like them. There is really no performance difference between the vented and non-vented models. You just have to understand the drying limitations. The washer will wash twice as much as it can dry, so don't load it up with jeans and sweatshirts in the...

For Sale: I like these, Kadey Krogen 42 estate sale

My Krogen is a 1986. Oil canning consists of 4 deflections in the hull shape due to the use of an alternate to the specified PVC coring. It's not structural and does not need to be fixed, but if you do, Washburn's has the technique. Mine had extensive blistering when I bought it, so I had the...

    Banking underway

Bank of America has the most ATM's in the US, followed closely by Wells Fargo. BOA has a smartphone ap that lets you handle pretty much all your banking needs. You can take pictures of checks to deposit them, transfer funds, do bill pay, etc. Use the card at ATM's.

would you buy a used trawler with teak decks?

I bought a 1986 Krogen 42 in 2001 with teak decks. Yea, I could spend tons of time and money babying it, but I don't. About once a year I replace maybe 100 screws and plugs because in all those years, the deck has worn down such that the plugs have become paper thin and depart on their own. The...

    South Texas Yacht Services

I prefer anyone but South Texas. Seabrook Shipyard is where I've gone for years, also been to Hillman's. I've used Petit Trinidad SR for years, and get at least 5 years out of it here in the Galveston Bay area.

    Boatoberfest boat show, October 24 - 27

It was smaller than the SSH show by a bit. Nothing much new, usual vendors, waste of $10 for me. They are getting so many of these "little" boat shows around, I think they'll implode after a couple of years. Between the consumers not coming, and the expense of all these shows for the vendors, I...

    Got charts?

I just downloaded 11326, Galveston Bay with no problem. It was about 7 meg and I can zoom in 800% with no degradation. Very cool, although I'm not sure how I would actually use them underway, since my nav computer will have it's own electronic chart in use.

    Fuel Tank Leak

I had my starboard tank repaired with aircraft fuel tank sealer maybe 8-9 years ago. I figured if it's good enough for the FAA, then it's good enough for my trawler. Opened the existing inspection port, then installed new ones in each baffled area. Cleaned out the old gook, solvent washed then...

    Haul out advice

You should have some minimal 110V power on board. Most of the shipyards down here have full 30 and 50 amp service during haul and block, but some only have 15 amp (household) sockets. That's enough to keep the battery charger running, which would be my first concern.
