    Your Age?

62, which, I thought, used to be old. Glad I was wrong! Yes, sorting screws and generally re-organizing things in storage. Just messing around on the boat is very satisfying! What was that famous quote...? “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth...

Great experience! I'll bet you know the horn signals cold! Almost constant around the WDW lakes.

Wow! I guess I lucked out, finally! I have hull #43. What's yours, Dallas?

    Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

Our 2012 44 has a valve in the aft head that diverts the waste to either the pump out port on the starboard side or out to sea, below the water line. Also, contrary to the owners manual, our heads flush with fresh water. I have found many discrepancies in the owners manual. It's as if it was...

You can see the lower port screen door edge, in white. Best photo I have for now.

    Beneteau Swift Trawler 44

Ours came with the optional door screen package. They self-store within the aft saloon and lower helm doors. Easy to deploy. No problem except the dealer had to add small handles to the aft doors. They meet in the middle with strong magnetic edge seals and they were awkward to disconnect before...

Other than weather, why have a lower helm?

Great idea! It's a hit on boats!

Our boom max weight is 120Kg, or 264 lbs. The max length for the space is about 10'. I bought and am happy with the AB Lammina 9 AL, which weighs about 100 lbs. The Lehr 9.9 hp propane outboard has given me a few issues. While it's nice to have propane instead of gasoline, I may opt for a gas...

No problem with bed size. I'm 5'10' 190 lbs. Wife is smaller. This is the most comfortable bed we own, albeit smaller than our normal king. There is noise from waves slapping against chines in rough conditions. Only anchored out 2 nights in calm water, no noise, of course. I suggest you go and...

Other than weather, why have a lower helm?

The upper and lower stations were a prerequisite in our search and we wouldn't change a thing. When we first got her I did all of the docking from the lower station, and there are a few advantages, such as being able to sight directly down the starboard side while standing outside the door next...

    Dock lines-- how tight?

Thank you, but I'm a bit confused as the two suggestions above look contradictory.

    Dock lines-- how tight?

Caught! Tying for major storm? I know, I know, if a major storm like a hurricane is imminent get the hell outta Dodge! But what if my only option is to hunker down in a semi-protected harbor in a half-mile wide bay? My marina has floating piers. I heard a "respected" local captain say that...

    Headsets for Docking

This type of communication really helps us accomplish safe, "no shouting" docking. We always know what the other is doing or planning to do. Once, during a particularly stressful docking situation in Ft. Meyers, per my command, wife had set us for port side tie, which I suddenly changed to...

How much money does Active Captain save you each year?

Exactly! AC overlays nicely with Garmin Bluechart Mobile. Get a new iPad w/ GPS and enjoy! In many ways it is better than the $10,000 (+/-) chart plotter that came w/ the boat, but we use both, along with paper charts.

I thought dockwa was a typo. What is it?

How much money does Active Captain save you each year?

We are (still) new to boating and AC was mentioned to us in a navigation class back in 2012 in Annapolis, when we bought our first and only boat. That little tip ranks up there with the best we've ever gotten. It is clearly our #1 resource when we cruise. Since we don't anchor often we usually...

Right, the Beneteau Owners Forum is pretty useless unless you're a sailboater. Sorry, biggest water we've been in has been 3'-4', with period of about 2 seconds, so I'm no help on Bahama crossing.

I try to keep up with the Swift line, but do not see many resales, and when I do I'm kind of shocked by the (high) prices. Good Luck & Please keep in touch!

    Davit's or crane?

Our crane is a pain but I couldn't live without a clear swim platform. (Sorry for the 90 degree photo error)

    IPAD chartplotter

I'm not sure if it will serve all of your particular needs but we really like the Garmin Bluechart Mobile. Really easy and overlays weather radar and Activecaptain. Wife and I greatly prefer this over the one that came as stock on the boat.

Replacing Engine After Only 335 Hours!

I never deal through attorneys for reasons all of you know. Volvo has been very responsible to this point and I plan to stay this course until we reach an impasse. Do you know if I can tell the engine manufacture date by the serial numbers?

Replacing Engine After Only 335 Hours!

Interesting. The boat is a 2012 with the last part of the hull number "H112", if that specifies anything further. January 2012? It was a stock boat with 30 hours on her when we bought in November of 2012. I do have the serial number of the engines if that will help ID the time of manufacture...
