TJM, If I do go to Essex I would do an overnight just to visit the Griswold Inn it sound like a fun place. As far as choppy weather goes, I have boated in Mount Hope and Narragansett Bay all my life. The sea breeze comes in about noon and blows 15 to 20 SW. The real slop is on a falling tide...
I cruise about 7 mph can push it a bit to 8.5 but at 7 I burn under 2 gph. I can mix anchorages and marinas and will play it by ear.
I will not be in a hurry but I do love being at the helm underway. I would like to be anchored by mid afternoon so I have time to take my dog for a run.
I have all the charts, waterway guides, tools and electronics. I do know how to read charts and use my electronics. I also spend time every day researching anything I can think of to expand my knowledge. I feel very confident doing the Loop solo. I have been through a lot of situations and some...
This is my first extended trip out of home waters. Here is what I am trying to figure out. If I travel 40-50 miles per day how many days will I need to go from my homeport in Swansea to New Baltimore NY? Then I can figure out how much time I have in between for any visiting. I like small harbor...
You guys are great. I am doing the whole loop with my dog starting around June 1st. I will have some guests along the way so they say. Block Island was just based on miles no real desire to go back there. I am all about anchoring and using my dingy. I will mostly do marinas to provision, fuel...
I have never cruised down LI sound and want to start making a plan A, B & C. In June I start my solo Loop from Narragansett Bay. I want to know what anchorages are good as I make my way to the Hudson. My first night will be on Block Island, I plan to run about 40 to 50 miles per travel day. What...
I fell in love first. I also paid the price to make it right. Then I paid the price to replace just about everything I touched. When I was done my wife asked if I would get my money back if I sold her. My answer, "Not even close".
I heard back from Blue Cross today. The Sapphire blue has limited travel coverage the Geo multi trip has good coverage for $150.00 a year. The big thing is they have 1,000,000.00 medical limit and 500K evacuation benefit. My Ex business partner came very close to needing to be evacuated when we...
I have Medicare A & B with Blue Cross Sapphire Medicap coverage. My question is what insurance do you add when going into Canada and the Bahamas. I am starting the loop in June and want to make sure I am covered. Blue Cross in MA offers a GEO traveler plan which covers you for 70 days duration...
I have a 44KG Mantus M1 main anchor, when it hooks you better be holding on. My spare is a Fortress 23 which I have never needed. The Delta plow that came with the boat was a fail.
My 6BT 5.9 has an electric fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump. I can pull the wire or if needed. I could also add a switch inline to kill power to the solenoid.
What brands are best?? USA made preferred. With strong lift handle to get her in the boat. What kind of dog you may ask. I am rescuing a 5 year old 45 lb Fox Hound. Thanks to my dog lovers.
If you want to use a taper reamer get one for metal. It will most likely one and done for the tool. I would go slow and keep oil on it for cooling. Good luck.
Due to the limited time I have before leaving I feel the 2 year old will be a better fit. I will do as much training as I can but the boat is on the hard until just before I set off. She will certainly be a work in progress. I am a life long boater and dog owner but the only boat dog I had was...
I have reached the point where if I want to get a dog for my solo loop trip the time is now. I have always had a dog and I a ready to get another. (my best dog ever died 3 years ago). Is cruising solo with a dog a problem I do want to anchor out and I will have my dingy. Give me your wisdom. Thanks
My business repairs heavy equipment so we get a run away every once in a while. Our way to shut them down is with a C02 fire extinguisher. Works every time and causes no harm to the engine. We keep one specifically for that purpose.
