    2 way headphones

I've got the Eartech's and love them, the single ear lets me hear what is going on around me. I am a fan.

    Modern Retro Trawler

In 2019 I bought a 30 year old boat I knew needed some updating. 150K and a lot of hours later it is almost where I want it. Admittedly I did get carried away with some things which I will never regret doing. My advice is make a budget, triple it then add 10%. Boat bucks don't go as far as they...

    Internet while cruising?

What is the most reasonable way to get internet while anchored out and underway? Who uses a hot spot, Which one, What is the best plan, do you use a booster? This is a subject I know very little about. Part of my retirement gives me my cell phone for life with only standard date usage so...

    Dog crates on boats

My dog gets crated every night and when we are out of the house. She is happy to go in and sometimes she needs convincing to get out. I just ordered her boat crate so I can start getting her used to it. Her house crate is too big for the boat.

    PVC inflatable registration number ideas

Frolic I saw the glue on boards I just don't know how it will hold up as the inflatable heats and cools. My neighbor said he could not get his to last more than a season. I think paint would not do well. I have had this dink for 5 years unregistered w/o issue. I am starting the Loop and want to...

    PVC inflatable registration number ideas

I just registered it and know keeping registration decals on is a battle any thoughts? Has anyone had outside name boards and tied them to a weight that hangs inside to keep it in place. I am sure there is a lot of creativity going on out there. Ty

    Dog crates on boats

I may not have been very clear. I believe in and we use a crate at home, she is happy to be in there. I am curious as to what people use on their boats. Rosie is a 50lb Fox Hound and has a large crate my son gave me. I am looking at buying a 30" collapsible one from Chewy for use on the boat. I...

    Dog crates on boats

How many of you use a dog crate on board. She spends nights and when we are away for the day in her crate with no issue. Her trainer told me when I am off the boat she should be crated to keep anxiety down. I have a new to me 5 year old rescue that can get into mischief when left alone to long...

Why did you buy your boat?

I was looking for a Loop boat in 2019 and thinking a 390 Mainship was the boat. I put an offer in on one in Florida and it failed survey at the same time Covid hit. I made my search more local, and in my search I kept coming back to this salty looking older tug and fell in love. It did pass...

    Documentation Renewal

I did the one year, I was waiting for them to get the 5 year option online. I emailed them twice, the first answer was it would be ready by Jan 31, the second time they said they had no idea when it would be available.

    Documentation Renewal

    Trip planning LI sound

I am looking forward to my time in the Chesapeake and I want to do the Albemarle sound too. The amount of places to see will guarantee a second Loop.

    Trip planning LI sound

I might try Fishers Island, years ago I would take the ferry over to service tractors at one of the golf courses. Time will tell if and when my wife joins me, however my dog will be there to enjoy it. I am thinking Watch Hill or Fishers Island for my first stop. Next to Essex or Port Jefferson...

    Trip planning LI sound

This is just what I am looking for. Great places to stop and where to be careful. I am open to crossing sound. The weather will dictate my travel days and where I stop, The better the weather means more stops along the way.

    Drogue, worth having one?

You guys have convinced me not to get one. I need to stop browsing the Defender website.

    Drogue, worth having one?

Thanks everyone. The longest trip would be to the Bahamas or crossing one of the Great Lakes. I will be sure to have a good weather window before doing either one. I want to be prepared so I read, research and ask questions.

    Drogue, worth having one?

As I prep my boat for extended coastal cruising and the Loop, I was wondering how many people have a drogue and does it get used? Is this a case of having to fit even more ****? I am that guy that wants to be prepared for whatever comes my way.

    Rewiring the whole boat

The compass is easily seen while standing. The boat is just about complete and ready to go. All I have left is minor details and cosmetics which I will do this spring.

    Rewiring the whole boat

You can add this to the list as well. I had the boat in a heated tent at my house last winter. I literally replaced almost everything. I also added lots of extra stuff. With the Covid lockdown I worked on it whenever I had a free minute.

    Trip planning LI sound

Right now I am thinking of Anchoring at Fishers Island which will be a long first day. Then I think Essex for a Griswold visit. After that Port Jefferson then to Port Washington. Anchoring at the Statue of Liberty is not a must do. I am using it as my official starting point of the Loop.

    Rewiring the whole boat

I had my boat rewired by a marine electrician last year. I had him replace basically everything. He replaced the steering system when he installed the new auto pilot. My wiring looked like that when he started which is why I hired him. There was a lot of cut wires some of them were hot. He found...
