    AIS systems

I have a ais transmitter/receiver. Makes me feel like one of the big boys, maybe a 75' Fleming or a 1000' freighter.

    Underway Today

AIS vis cell phone, I'll have to check that out. MILLENNIUM is at the Conch House in St Augustine. Nicer place then the City Marina, but a car is needed to go anywhere.

    Underway Today

Hi Daddyo. I'm in St Augustine, and have done the Charleston/St A direct several times. I see you on the MarineTraffic site, your AIS is loud and clear, I'm curious what unit you have that transmits so well. Class A? Enjoy the trip.

How do you identify yourself when hailing...

I like short and to the point for routine communications: " Ben Sawyer Bridge southbound motor boat Millennium requesting your next opening". If I find myself sinking I would call the CG with triple word repeats. And if I hear someone say "Breaker 16 this here's the Rubber Duck" I have to...

    Bilge float switch

Are your bilges normally bone dry- except when something breaks, leaks, or otherwise fails? I would like my bilge to be dry, but it seldom is. Dripless shaft seals drip a bit, some past the rudder seals, some area rainwater comes in no matter what I do. So the high water alarm switch is...

    Who's Here?

Be curious to see what we do/did. I just recently retired as an airline pilot. It seems there are quite a few aviation people here.

    Who's Here?

I always thought displacement and weight were equal. I could be wrong. 2000 Mainship 390 with twin Yanmar. 26000 pounds. 55.

    Fuel use computer advice

Thanks Shoalwaters. I think I may be asking Santa for a pair of Floscans(twin Yanmars), although I know one would do the job. The the 0 to 10 gph scale work with the LH's, I would think they would burn more then 10 gph at high power settings.

    Fuel use computer advice

The Floscan instruments need to be calibrated after the installation? I can imagine that would be a very inexact science.

    mainship

Yep same boat. They started calling it a 390 in 2000, the year we bought ours. There were some minor changes inside the boat. Still have ours after 13 years, running great.

    Setting a Second Anchor

Why not two anchors on one rode? If wind is expected I will use ten feet of chain to attach the second anchor to the first. The second anchor is light enough so I can pull it in after the main is retrived via the windlass. I will have a good scope so the first anchor is not pulled free by the...

    Mainship 400 vs 390 performance

My year 2000 390 has twin Yanmar 230hp, the 4lha-ste's. It will do 16k wot, fast cruise 3000 rpm about 13k. Big wake and fuel bills. Normal cruise is 1400 rpm, 7 knots. If in no hurry I go 1200 one only, 5 k. Go forever on a tank of fuel.

    Intruder Alert

I hear what you guys are saying about the 12 gauge. Someday I may wish I had one. I'm concerned that in the 2 am grogginess or to much rum I will blow away the yorkie.

    Intruder Alert

Do you feel, when you're lying there half awake, like someone just got on the boat when it rocked a bit? At a marina or especially anchored in the middle of nowhere. Of course that does not happen, but could it? Anchored in the swamps of South Carolina off the waterway. Maybe I watched...

    What can stop my engine?

For me having a twin I will let some parts go until failure, ex. starter. Unless it's a really bad day with multiple failures I can get the boat to service and parts. I do keep a supply of filters and fluids, some hoses, impellers, belts.

    Bilge Pump Advice

My Mainship(390) has two in the keel, one at the low spot and another slightly higher. I added a suction pump that removes the water the bilge pump can't. I also added a Rule 4000 gph for when the worst happens. I often do all night crossings and am concerned of hitting something holing the...
